To me, screen size is essential and since you say you have the room, go big or I'm sure you'll regret it down the line.
That's why a few days ago I ordered me a 600M

after post calibration, would the 151fd look better than the 600m? some of the stuff ir ead suggests the 600m is better.

i could be wrong

p.s. and doesnt KRP mean kuro REFFERENCE panel? so isnt this very close to the elite anyway?

The screens are essentially the same with only minor differences in features, glass and badge separating them. Anyone who says the quality between them varies "by far" is smoking the whacky tobacky. The biggest differences are those I mentioned.

I will have to buy the speakers. The tv itself i will mount. Perhaps the 151fd is the best choice since it has the tuner and i may want to watch tv

Yes, if you need an internal tuner and the stock speakers, the elites are the way to go.

According to D-nice on the AVS forum
Quote:
From best to worst:
  • 101FD/500M
  • 111FD
  • 141FD/600M
  • 151FD
He also said that the '500m had the darkest black level of any panel he has calibrated to date".

Yes but over tiem the 60inch screen will have the same performance after immersion on the screen.

How is the krp-500a different than the krp-500m? Is it just the model for another market?

A guy on avsforum did a review on it claiming it "the best and most accurate tv on the market, with reference color PQ"

I guess what i would need to ask is, how would the following sets be rated from best to worst
(1-5, 1=BEST, 5=WORST) in each of the following?

A. (OUT OF THE BOX PERFORMANCE)?
B. (POST - CALIBRATION)
C. (POST - ISF CALIBRATION)

A.
KRP-500M
KRP-600M
PRO-101FD
PRO-141FD
PRO-111FD
PRO-151FD

B.
KRP-500M
KRP-600M
PRO-101FD
PRO-141FD
PRO-111FD
PRO-151FD

C.
KRP-500M
KRP-600M
PRO-101FD
PRO-141FD
PRO-111FD
PRO-151FD

The 500m/600m do NOT have the day/night/auto calibration settings, for the LAST f-ing time... They are great displays, but don't get it twisted.

I think you have come to the point where you need to decide which one fits your needs, which one you want to get! Everyone will have their own opinion, mine is to go with the 111 or its 60 inch counterpart.

i read in a bit more depth and found out that when d-nice did his best to worst comparison, he specified his ranking was based solely on PURE MODE setting claiming the 500m was the best.

his ranking from best to worst:

101FD/500M
111FD
141FD/600M
151FD

This was ONLY ranked on sole basis of performacne on pure mode across all panels.

I read pure mode is the most accurate picture reproduction mode for picture setting. It sound slike this would be the most important mode setting you would run in order to do a comparison...

since this is the case, why does it seem he was stressing his ranking solely on that one mode, claiming the KRP is the best performer. It sounds like to me that in other areas the KRP is not the top pick.

Am i missing something?

Edit: Is it the fact that BEFORE his calibration and setting all panels on pure mode, the black levels and picture quality was best on the 500m?

So after ISF calibration on the 101FD, 141FD, 111FD and 151FD, the pq and black levels on pure mode should be better than the KRP's?

please advice if im wrong in something so that I understand it better. thanks!

You are going to be HARD PRESSED as a layman to see a difference in picture quality between the elites and the KRP models.

You're splitting hairs to be honest. The price difference between elites and KRPs is vast and the picture quality difference? Noticeable only to someone who calibrates TVs for a living. And just barely.

D-Nice specifically said he is blown away by these TVs and sees no justification for buying an Elite when you can own a KRP for thousands less with virtually the same PQ and black levels (assuming you don't care about the absence of the tuner).

So if you're thinking about buying one...remember this. The elites will be around til the end of the year (regardless of what the chicken littles say)...the KRPs have a limited production run based on orders that were placed months ago by specific dealers. This work is in process and I don't anticipate any KRPs being available by the end of summer, if not before.

Time is not on your side if you are considering one of these.

Thanks for the great info! Is pure mode what the tv setting is out to be put on most of the time?

Is it ideal for blu-rays, or OTA broadcast, or both? Please let me know. thanks

Diff people have diff preferences...personally I prefer PERFORMANCE over PURE. Some actually prefer OPTIMUM...I think it all depends on the owner/viewer.
