Sadly the Imprint versions are inferior and have far worse compression. It’s quite pathetic considering Imprint used BD-50s and way more bitrate and Indicator still won out with their BD-25s.

We’ll be 40 films into this line quite soon, and they still haven’t figured out how to make a good Blu-ray... They could be saving money and using BD-25s if they knew how to compress the films properly. Instead they’re using BD-50s and getting beaten by other releases on BD-25s.

If anyone has an issue with Imprint/Via Visions encoding why don't you write/call them and let them know that you like what they are doing but they need to lift their game with encoding. Constructive criticism can help alot one example being Umbrella Entertainment finally including subtitles when a member complained to them and all their releases since have had them.

I've only watched one, Night Falls on Manhattan, and it looks fantastic.

I agree. However I’m practically certain that if another company put it out using the exact same master, it would look better at half the bitrate.

exactly the same source prints were used for both releases. You would be hard pressed to notice any difference between the two.

It's a TV movie to be fair but it seems deeper than soapie (time travel, murder etc), same writer (and self-directed) by the person who did Audrey Rose's plot.

I thought it was so-so. The cast are good, but it's TV movie from the 70's so don't expect anything amazing.

Look at the comparisons on DVDBeaver. You can see the difference. It's not hard.

Literally the point I'm making is that they are bad at compression, not that they are using inferior prints.

I initially just wanted Bad News Bears and Breakdown, but I also got Black Sunday and Five.

Still on the fence on The Apostle.

Hopefully JB has a 20% off or better sale soon (last year JB had one at the end of Feb) so I can open them

Can you? I looked at the two screenshots from Framed vs the Indicator release and even staring at them closely for 5 minutes I can’t see any difference.

I’m sorry to hear that. I wasn’t exaggerating. I can see that there is clearly less detailed retained on Imprint’s encode compared to Indicator’s within the initial seconds of switching tabs.

Are you viewing the two screenshots in full resolution and switching between the tabs?

Yes, in fact with the second frame comparison, the image barely changes as you flick between them. For a while I thought he’d made a mistake and posted the same screenshot twice. Are you looking at the same page? The Imprint and Indicator screen grabs are right on top of each other. Give me an example of somewhere in the image where you think there is clearly less detail. If anything, and I had to nitpick, the only place I could see any great difference was in the curtain pattern in the background, and I’d say it was the Imprint that had more detail
