When I first saw Star Wars it was in black & white.

Right? I wore all of them out. Those tapes didnt last long at all, did they? Like they got slightly worse with seemingly each viewing. Of course, on our 27" crap TVs, who could tell?

I used to joke that he sold Star Wars to Disney simply because he was an addict and needed to get the films away from himself so he'd stop obsessively finding new things to tweak or alter.
I still think the Attack of the Clones re-edits are "Deliberate Creative Decisions™" that no one has complained enough about to Lucasfilm for them to fix.

The re-edits seem too odd to be deliberate and remind me of all the weird QC glitches that plagued the 2004 DVDs that Lucasfilm tried to play off as deliberate but then they were suddenly fixed by the time the Blu-rays came out. There were also a lot of similar accidental re-edits like this around that time like The Little Mermaid in which Disney issued a replacement program for.

If people hadn't been so vocal about all of the 2004 DVD issues, I wouldn't have been surprised if Lucasfim kept them the way they were for the Blu-rays besides all the other crap they added in 2011. That stuff was "deliberate", after all.

I could, I'd always spot little blips and dropouts that got worse with each viewing. Tape was just...ewww

Out of all the mistakes that could’ve been fixed in the subsequent versions of the OT, this is one that never gets mentioned and it bugs me every time I watch A New Hope.

When Vader and Tarkin are talking in the conference room and Vader says “...she would not consciously betray the rebellion”, he gesticulates and points AFTER he says that instead of while he says it. I don’t understand why the editing team cut it like that, or how it wasn’t fixed in the subsequent versions when it’s so easy to correct. Just delay that dialogue by several seconds so it matches with his gestures, or trim that shot by several seconds.

There was supposed to be more dialog in that scene.
Remember, there was a rough cut that was like 3-4 hours long.
I'd love to see that cut!

Vader is rather fidgety in a few places where the looped line from Jones has been moved around or changed from what was said on set. He absent mindedly twiddles his fingers with his thumbs stuck in his belt at one point.

There are lots of bloopers that Lucas never fixed. The Death Star plan animation still shows the older design.

I want to see his first workprint which, I think I have read, was almost unwatchable. Slow and with empty corridor shots of the death star etc.

Yeah those re-edits in Clones are really weird. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they were indeed mistakes.

With that being said, Disney did smooth out the jumps in the audio when they did the atmos mixes.

You mean the Lost Cut, edited by John Jympson, or something else?

I wonder if EMPIRE and JEDI also have their own “Lost Cut”?

I was just reading an article over at Slashfilm, and they were talking about how Tom Holland (MCU Spiderman) auditioned for Star Wars (presumably for Finn) and how horribly bad it went. The interview is an interesting, but brief read. But, I think it's a good thing he didn't get cast for that Star Wars role. While the writing for his "Peter Parker / Spiderman" hasn't been all that great (blame the writers for that), I'll be the first to say that it was just fortunate he went on to the MCU avoided for Star Wars drama.

For 20 bucks I picked up a re-issue VHS set of the Special Editions, which were no longer referred to as such and had exclusive preview content of Episode II (yay!). And then not that long after that the DVD set came out so it was goodbye VHS copies (although I still have my Faces VHS set just for the nostalgia).
Watched the first in HD not long ago, it's a neat time capsule

Makes me wish we could just get that Blade Runner-style fantasy set and be done with it already. Original theatrical versions, 1997 Special Editions, and the current George Lucas "Final Editions" or whatever they want to call it. Without going crazy and breaking down every revision, those are the three basic versions of significance and ought to be preserved at this point.

I'd get just a trace crazier also add in original theatrical 35mm and 70mm versions of the OT since they differed. And original theatrical 35mm and digital of Attack Of The Clones since they also differed. And also The Force Awakens with 1.43:1 IMAX scene fully intact with no cropping.
