Pretty much that but it could also simply be due to Gen Fukunaga interview where he was overly pissed. I'm pretty sure Khara does not want to sell NGE to a person after the impression they made…
Even if in substance he is damn right about how Netflix handles animes (and shows in general), it was not really professional on his end.

It's all speculation at this point; we really don't know what happens BTS, but there's some clues. I do think the new Eva dub will be included on GKIDS/Anime Limited's Blu-rays because other Netflix-produced dubs have made it to other studios' discs (Knights of Sidonia from Sentai comes to mind), and I have heard that Netflix charges a lot of money for use of their dubs in Europe specifically, but still, Dynit's situation gives me hope that the ADV/Manga dubs will also be included.
I don't get why you are all bringing up Dynit here. They own the rights to their own dub, like Selecta… The situation is entirely different with ADV as they went out of business.

Er, ADV basically exists, and a release with their logo is hitting next month, just like there's been multiple since 2010. What happened to them is they sold parts of themselves to themselves, they took advantage of a loophole in a Texas bankruptcy law, which is where the Section23 in Section23 Films comes from. Also note how many of their 90s titles have been rescued by other companies with their old dubs. Also note the following.

On October 15, 2009, rival distribution company Funimation posted an online Q&A video panel hosted by events manager Adam Sheehan. When asked about ADV going out of business, Sheehan's response was the following:
Quote:
ADV isn't out of business. ADV did remaster itself, as you might call it, and change itself into multiple different companies (Section 23, etc.), holding different parts of its brands, of its marketing, so [it's] still around...the best way I would describe it is to think of it as Voltron: if it turned back into the five lions, so it's not the one Voltron robot anymore, so the ADV logo is no longer around, but the lions and all the properties are still around.

Haha yes, my definition of bankruptcy lacks all those weirds quirks from the US law. I mean, nothing stop GKIDS from licensing ADV's dub. But both companies will likely have to find some agreement. It's not a given for them, unlike European distributors who own their dubs.

But when ADV Films was split into several companies: How does it come, that there are still new releases by "ADV Films" around? wasn't ADV itself liquidated after bankruptcy? Was a new ADV formed by one or more of its former parts? and which?

ADV as an entity still existed, I mean FUNimation sued them in 2011, and that same year, ADV sued Gainax over the live-action Evangelion movie.

GKIDS likely wouldn’t need to go through ADV to use their dub. It almost certainly reverted to the Japanese rights holders (Khara) like almost all dubs, including others from ADV. I believe even Tiffany Grant confirmed such is the case. It’s the same with the original movies, which were released by Manga Entertainment, and never by ADV. I highly doubt the rights are with Lionsgate (who owns Manga’s IP). Hell, GKIDS themselves used Manga’s dub for Perfect Blue.

Depends of the original contract with the right owner and if any subsequent decision were made. I know for a fact that french distributors have to go through Manga UK or Lionsgate (depends the title) to reuse old Manga Entertainment dubs. French release of Devilman's OAV specifically credits Manga for the dub rights.

Where does the rumor originate from that ADV owns the dub?

How things used to work (this was explained on an old Answerman, wish I knew which one) is that the company that made the dub would automatically own it. This was changed in the late 90s/early 2000s when problems with license-rescues and companies going under happened. How things work now in most cases is the JP rightsholder automatically owns the dub immediately after it's made.

This has some info.

Answerman 2014:

Quote:
...It used to be, years ago, that contracts were written so that the English dub and subtitles were a derivative work with their own copyrights, belonging to the publisher that created them. However, this created a legal mess when those rights expired and there was a perfectly good dub just sitting there that could no longer be used without permission, so since about 2001 or so, any translation, marketing material, or box art made for a show automatically becomes property of the licensor.
Answerman 2015:
Quote:
...What's more, ADV often owns the rights to the dub of older shows, and they may not be willing to offer those dubs to competitors. With a handful of shows from the bubble era, ADV was actually on the production committee to make them in the first place -- effectively giving what is now Sentai Filmworks/Section 23/etc. veto power over re-licensing those shows to another publisher at all.

It appears that 'Evangelion 3.33 (blu-ray)' is being OOP quickly as it is listed as OOS on most of major retailers and Amazon.com has only a few copies in stock. If you are willing to get it, you should purchase it now.

honestly 3.33 needs a new encode. the Funimation blu-ray has some really ugly compression artifacts that hinder its viewing experience.

I suppose it’s good to see 3.33 go OOP sooner rather than later. Hopefully this means a nice box set of all four films from whoever is next to get the rights.

My only wish at this point is for 3.0+1.0’s packaging to not match any previous, current, or future release. Consistence in inconsistence.

On the one hand, I’d guess this is old stock running out due to a surge in interest in the series...

However, we already passed 5 years since 3.33 released on home video. We should probably expect the worst.

Funimation has had Eva 3.33 since late 2013 or early 2014 so it sounds like the license has run out

Called this a year ago. Funi and Eva are done. The writing was on the wall as soon as the first Rebuild went OOP.

For those who haven't gotten the movies yet and can't wait for the eventual re-releases from GKids, there are Hong Kong releases with English subtitles:
