Default Game Shows

Am I the only one who wants to go on a game show? So I figured I'd start up a thread to talk about our favorite game shows. Has anyone here been on one? If so, what show, what'd you win, etc.?

My favorite game show as a kid was The Price is Right, and I wanted to make a trip out to LA to go to a filming of the show before Bob Barker retired, but that ended up never happening.

Of all the current game shows, the one I'd probably most like to be on is Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, because I find it incredibly easy to get to at least the $25k question, so in terms of the amount of money you can win, that show seems like the easiest, except for Deal or No Deal, which is even easier.

The hardest would obviously be Jeopardy!, because all it takes is a couple bad categories that you know nothing about, and you'll lose. 18th century Irish literature? No thanks.

Other shows I liked that I [used to] want to be on: Supermarket Sweep, Cash Cab, Double Dare.

For me it would be Deal or No Deal....pick a few cases and get an offer from the banker and walk away.If you have a goal set its should be easy the hardest would be quitting.

I've never really watched Jeopardy regularly, but I tend to watch it a few times a week. One day last year, a week or two before Christmas, I was packing some things up to drive home the next day, and I decided to put Jeopardy on while eating dinner.

Surprisingly a guy I was friends with in middle school, but haven't talked to since, was on. He ended up winning, and won another 2-3 shows after that.

Another time, a few years ago I randomly put the Price is Right on, and noticed a guy that I played baseball with in high school was on. I forgot what game he played, but he made it to the Showcase and went on to win that as well.

My favorite all-time game show is TPIR. There is no equal, to put it mildly. I actually went to a taping in early 2007, knowing that it would be one of Bob's final shows. We had to line up in the slummy Hollywood streets near the CBS studio at like 3:30 in the morning to hope that we made it into one of the two tapings that day. Turns out, we made it in to the second one, and only about four or five people after our group did. We lucked out big-time.

If only I could have made it on the show...man that would have been sweet. I could be seen several times throughout the show, though, as I was lucky enough to get a seat in the front row (although it was off to the side a bit). The studio is much smaller in-person than I thought it was growing up.

There was this one lady in the audience who had a tattoo of Bob's face on her arm, and between games she came up on-stage and Bob signed it with a Sharpie or El Marko. They actually ended up airing that. I have the whole show on DVD (I have a DVD recorder).

Also strange was that they had several instances of game malfunctions throughout the show, which they needed to edit out and re-shoot. One case of a game malfunction actually led to the contestant getting another chance, which she turned into winning a car. Definitely a cool thing to see, yet also quite surprising. I thought TPIR was infallible. Oh how naïve I was!

That whole experience was epic.

I was also a huge fan of Double Dare growing up, and would love to go on there just to take the physical challenges and school everyone. Then go on to the obstacle course thing at the end and wreck shop by getting the flags in record time.

I'll watch Jeopardy! from time to time, as well as Wheel of Fortune, but I'm either away from the house at a basketball/softball game at that time or doing something around the house that I don't really get to watch it too often. I enjoy both of those games (and I wish they were recorded in HD )

I always wondered how much goes on during filming shows that you never really get to see. Your story about TPIR confirms that things often do get messed up.

As for Jeopardy, it's in HD in my area (and the corner of the screen says Jeopardy! HD). Not sure about Wheel of Fortune, because I never watch it.

I was really into the more current version of the show from the late 1980s or early 1990s with Ray Combs. I just did a Google on that guy to make sure I spelled his name right, and it turns out he passed away in 1996. I did not know this. After reading the Wiki on him, it kind of soured my mood for the day. I loved that show, and always thought he was funny. Granted, I was pretty young at the time that show aired with him as the host.

I am an absolute beast at Wheel Of Fortune...... it has something to do with my crossword puzzle prowess perhaps..... either way.... people think it's odd, but every past roommate through school..... my parents, and now my wife, are pretty much amazed at my freakish abilities to solve puzzles ridiculously early.......

I can't count the times I've solved the Bonus Round puzzle, where the contestant didn't get enough letters to solve it, and Pat Sajak says "You needed a few more letters to have a chance" or "there was no way to get that without more letters" etc.....

I've never really tried to get on the show though .....

This is the only gameshow (and one of the few network shows in general) I watch.... and the only reason I watch it, is because it's right before my son's bedtime, and he loves to yell out random letters etc.... so I figure it'll help him with his alphabet

I saw a show about that guy once. He recognized that the board always cycles through some sort of pattern, and practiced at home.

I think he won some insane amount of money... something over $100k, which is a lot, considering the winner on that show generally had roughly $5-10k.

It's still on, but it became a syndicated daytime show a few years ago, and is now just called Millionaire. It's hosted by Meredith Vieira now (the woman formerly from The View, and now a Today show anchor). Interesting useless fact: part of her contract with the Today show states that she can't directly compete with Millionaire, which is why she is only on the Today show from 7-9am, instead of the full show (since 9am is the earliest Millionaire airs, somewhere in some city).

I remember him. I think he hanged himself, didn't he? I remember hearing that as a kid, and felt bad for him. After he was replaced on Family Feud, he went on to host Family Challenge, on ABC Family channel, and I remember he just seemed different, as if he wasn't really happy to be doing the show. Anyhow, it wasn't until years later, and the invention of Wikipedia, that I learned about how sad the last year or so of his life was. He clearly had some sort of problem, and didn't get help in time.

Same here. It's the family feud that I grew up watching.

I think Wheel of Fortune would be fun. But ease of getting money would have to go to Deal or No Deal. You're not going up against anyone but yourself. And you don't really have to know anything.

Yes, Wikipedia was where I got my information about that. Definitely a sad story. It makes me wonder what kind of pressure one must be under as a celebrity. It seems like all these bizarre behavior problems persist with people like this; e.g Marc Summers.

I wonder what J.D. Roth is up to....

I remember he hosted a show called Fun House when I was a kid. It was on early on weekday mornings, and I tried to watch it before going to school.

Seeing that he was born in '68, its kind of surprising to see that he was only 20-22 when hosting that show. Although when I was 5, even 16 year olds seemed old to me. I guess it was no different than Wild 'n Crazy Kids, which had pretty young hosts.
