Scorpion Releasing and Kino Lorber have teamed up again to bring the masses the 1972 cult classic, politically charged, adult animation black comedy Fritz the Cat. Featuring the directorial debut of Ralph Bakshi (Wizards, The Lord of the Rings, Fire and Ice), the film revolves around a college student cat named Fritz (created by the iconic Robert Crumb) and a cast of other quirky*characters engaging in sex, drugs, and other profane debauchery. Fritz the Cat makes it's Blu-ray debut later this year. Stay tuned for more updates by following us and Kino Lorber!
![]() Fritz the Cat Blu-ray The folks at Scorpion Releasing and Kino Lorber aren't done with Fritz the Cat just yet as both companies are proud to also present the Blu-ray debut of the 1974 sequel to the original film, The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat. Fritz is now a family man and trapped in domestic hell, but that doesn't stop him from sparking up a joint and dreaming about the adventures he could have with each of his 9 lives. The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat is coming soon, so stay tuned for more updates by following us and Kino Lorber! ![]() The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat Blu-ray Last edited by Deciazulado; 12-22-2021 at 07:35 PM. |

Yes!! I cannot emphasize how excited I am for Fritz the Cat, or any Bakshi in general, to hit Blu-ray.

Nice! I was wondering why this historically significant film hadn't hit Blu-ray yet.

The animation releases Kino and Scorpion are doing this year (these, The Daydreamer, KL’s Jetsons: The Movie Blu-ray) are all on my radar (well, besides Jetsons since I pre-ordered it and received it when it came out lol).

Well, part of the issue was that his first wife sold the film rights to the character behind his back. The first 30ish minutes are verbatim from his work. |

Finally! At last, I’m looking forward for Fritz the Cat on Blu-ray, except for The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat, that one is not as great as the first one. I am curious on why they couldn’t release both films as a double pack. Would have been nicer, to get a great adult animation film and one not so good and compare and such lol. Regardless, I think I’m going to enjoy this summer, as long as the video quality is great on Fritz, I hope.

I don't understand your reply. How am I being a smart ass? I haven't seen the sequel, I'm not shitting on it. I'm just saying it seems to be disliked, most people seem to like the first one only, so why make it a pack if some just want to get the first?

I love the animation from this timeframe, so I may grab this as a total blind buy.

I wasn't making a big deal about that there should be a double combo of both films. I only said that as a side comment, and then I believe you misinterpreted my response and in turn I took your comment as a jab to me. Look, as someone who did watch both films, the second one is crap. Though I was only making my statement neutral because there are fans that like the second film as well, or even more, I don't know lol. I don't like the second film, only the first, so I am glad they're releasing both films separately, so you have those that can enjoy the first film, and then the others who like the second. Rather not make this as a bashing of the second, since one's opinions do matter.

Wizards will always be my favorite work of Bakshi, I will get this one eventually. Didn't know they did a sequel to Fritz the Cat.

So as someone who has seen neither film (but remember seeing clips in the 80s), I was wondering why the sequel is disliked?
