This set originally sold retail at about $115. Who knows what the wholesale cost was, but obviously less than that. At least with the eBay scalpers, you know they originally paid full retail price. Grindhouse isn’t even building the shipping fee into the list price; shipping is an additional $8. So, $250 total.
A good rule of thumb is that wholesale is likely about 40% of MSRP. But that's going on old data, so it might be different these days.

I have the big box releases sitting on top of my bookcases. "Big box" meaning pretty much anything larger than a standard-height BD or DVD. So, Arrow's Gamera set, Criterion's Godzilla, Bergman, Del Toro, and Zatoichi sets, etc. If the boxes contain standard-sized cases, like Sony's Columbia Classics UHD set or some of Warner's "Ultimate Collector's" sets, I put the cases with the discs on the shelves with regular releases, and display the boxes on top of the bookcases.

You certainly won't see Diabolik sell their scratch and dent DotD 4K sets for anything above retail despite it being OOP.

How poor.
Lol, practically everyone on the board here got multiple sets probably to flip and someone just ordered a second lucky stars set just because it was £12. As soon as a reputable company tries to make a killing everyone is a saint. They can offer the set at whatever price they deem likely to shift on account of them being in the actual bone fide business of selling discs and paying employee wages.

And I take it you have proof that everybody on here was scalping the set, Eibon?

Any company that wants to start scalping damaged products that they got for wholesale price can go straight to my avoid list. Scummy behaviour and to try and justify it? Really.

I think the “surprises” mean they have found LE stock for OOP titles like last few years and will be offering small quantities for sale.
Last month Rarewaves listed a bunch of Arrow LE titles on the same day. I grabbed Hills Have Eyes UK LE (part 1) for $28 Canadian including shipping to Canada (around 16 gbp). They had Death Walks Twice LE, Killer Dames LE, The Door LE, The Thing Steelbook and Sartana LE (booklet) back in stock. There have have been others but I don’t recall. Wouldn’t be surprised if these, or some of these show up

These are exactly my thoughts regarding the H.G. Lewis box set
Hahahaha...

I went out of my way to get the big deluxe HG Lewis set because I wanted to read what Stephen Thrower thought about the movies, in his 'definitive' book on the subject. I'm pretty sure that's what Arrow touted the volume as being.

So imagine my surprise when Thrower's book features story synopsis and the occasional production detail, and tons of artwork and stills, but has bugger all commentary from Thrower about what he thinks about the movies, which ones are his favourite, what watching them is like, favourite scenes, which films annoyed him, whatever - basically all the things you'd expect to read in a book about someone's movies, and exactly what Thrower provided in his books on Fulci and Franco. Some of the films in the book are even just represented with credits, some posters, and no writing at all. Your average blogger does better than that, and I actually have trouble remembering anything in the book that suggests that Thrower actually wrote it. I'm sure he did though, for all the good it does anyone.

Arrow's deluxe HGL book basically reads as if Thrower had presented Arrow with a 300 page book featuring 200 pages of commentary, and Arrow had taken that 200 pages of writing and chucked it in the bin so they could concentrate on printing the detailed credits (which is what you want to read in a book on Herschell Gordon Lewis) and stills from the movie.

So basically I bought the box because I wanted to read an interesting, recent book on Lewis's films, only to find it didn't have one, despite the advertising saying that it did. I still want to read a book like that. I remember that McFarland brought one out a decade or more ago, so perhaps I'll try and grab that one, as the Arrow book and box may as well have just been filled with deluxe tissue paper and postcards instead. And it probably was - I just haven't dragged it back off the shelf to check. If you bought the cheap version of the box you should count yourself lucky.

I'd actually like to read a book like that from Thrower as well at some point. If he wrote it, but it wasn't printed, then someone should print it. And if the book as advertised didn't appear in the box because Thrower didn't want to write a book that actually talked about HGL's movies, then they should have given the job to someone who did. Thrower is a friendly guy and a great writer, but the HGL book, as advertised, still makes me think there's a hidden camera somewhere filming me as I dig through the box with a puzzled expression on my face looking for it.

The price is certainly higher now, but this is where and (with the same disclaimer) how I got mine months ago just before it slipped out of print. After the shrinkwrap and the paper thingy was removed, the box itself was basically perfect… I think the paper thingy had a little knick or two, bfd. Not saying it would necessarily be the same now, but there you go.

I’ve not actually seen them live but their shows from a few years back look incredible. Great band anyway.

Same. And on more than one occasion i've sold my OOP limited edition boxsets privately to people who missed out and only charged what I paid for it + postage. Happy just to make my money back on a blind buy that didn't work out.

I've sold some rare DVDs for silly money because I have superior BDs. In fact I am a little tempted to sell by Urotsukidoji Perfect Collection for north of 500 dollars, but not owning it would annoy me, as there's no alternative for an English friendly uncut release. I'm too much of a collector to cash in

You could always give it to me totally free of charge? Y'know, as a good deed?

Lol. I remember being heavily into more-underground bands like Skinny Puppy, Front 242 and Front Line Assembly at the time of Pretty Hate Machine and saw NIN as poseurs. I like a couple songs, but I've never considered myself a fan.
