All of them are OOP from Criterion.

They have been OOP for a while but they still appear on the Criterion Channel with the Criterion Collection and Janus logos. They also all appear on the Janus website, which means that they at least have the theatrical rights to them.

Withnail and I and Mona Lisa are both on HBO Max with Criterion/Janus logos as well. The others mentioned are not.

Yeah, there are so many "pre-crooked C" discs I look at one my shelf and long to upgrade. That section has been a little neglected of late (South Street being very welcome in the announcements last week for me)

Arrow did them both in the UK (HTGAIA was an extra on a LE of Withnail) and the regular version of Withnail is still in print.

Know what you mean. I thought there would be a greater selection of movies. I have most of the stuff in my library that's on the channel now. I still have 5 weeks so maybe I'll change my mind. I just can't justify $10.99 a month for what they offer.

I know you have a bigger library than most people, but there are more than 2,200 films on the channel right now!

Just got the Wong Kar-Wai set in the mail. Some...creative packaging from criterion. Anybody know what’s up with the book? It’s so strangely bound. It’s hard to even describe. Like it almost seems like every page looks like it’s meant to fold out but they don’t, and some of the pages have like art cards hidden between the pages. Bizarre. But it’s a nice set

Watching the Flavor of Green Tea Over Rice and there is a jarring moment in a scene where one guy is talking. I've never seen anything like in an Ozu film or pretty much any other film. its like skipped but audio is smooth and unchanged. like two halves sharply spliced together or something.

Baffling comments about the Criterion Channel. If you watch blu rays on your TV, why wouldn't you watch the app on your TV? And what selection were you expecting that you're not seeing? They add several dozen films every month so the selection is constantly shifting and in fact I find it hard to keep up.

RLJ Entertainment is Image Entertainment with its name changed to protect the innocent. An outfit called RLJ Acquisition acquired Image in 2012 and merged it with Acorn Media.

It appears now to be owned by AMC Networks.

Yeah, I know they have a lot. I went through the whole list. There are some things I'd like to see but I have most of the Criterions that I want already. There are not a lot of others outside of their library on the channel now.

Completely agree. I can never get to all the movies I want to see. And unlike Netflix, etc., the Channel is curated, so it's almost impossible to find a bad movie. There's a luxury in that. (There may be some movies not to your personal tastes, but you can still see their merit.)

I haven't read through all of the comments, but anyone who doesn't get the Channel "because Imma support physical media" is impossible for me to take seriously. Love physical media and want it to continue? Great! We all do. Putting coins in Criterion's coffers via subscribing to the Channel is a great way to keep them profitable and keep those awesome discs coming. Plus, I have to think part of the reason Criterion has surprised us with some truly unexpected releases - like The Signifyin' Works of Marlon Riggs - is because they were popular on the Channel. I don't know that for sure, obviously, but it makes sense to me.

I can only assume you mean there are not a lot of others outside their library that you want to see. That makes sense. Suggesting that there are not a lot of movies on the Channel outside their library in general is patently false. There are always tons of great movies outside their library.

No, I have a lot of movies that they are streaming now that aren't released by them. Chaplin, Preston Sturges, Black westerns etc etc. The one title I'd like to watch is The China Syndrome as I've been wanting to see that for years. I'm more of a mainstream and genre film collector though I have almost all of the art film greats. I dip my toe in something different every so often as well. I've got hundreds probably thousands of movies to catch up on as it is from my own library. I have a budget what with cable and some other streaming services.

I'm not worried about the death of physical media. It's not going to happen. People still buy vinyl records and even when very few had laser disc systems in the 90's, there was still a market.

As for me I have yet find a film more appealing than what I already have or on my wishlist either by Criterion or films in general. I went back to watching an old anime dvd Crest of the Stars recently.

I am not buying any device to hook up to my TV and watching through the computer is annoying and pain to set at a table for the whole length of a movie.

It is indeed hard to keep track of everything on the Channel. Also, surely people have certain films Criterion's released on blu-ray that they nonetheless don't necessarily feel the need to own physically but are still happy to be able to watch on the Channel whenever. This is how I feel about several films, such as Yi Yi, A Brighter Summer Day, The Cranes are Flying, Come and See, and a lot of films by Wenders and Kurosawa just to list off several examples.

I tend to be fairly abstemious about what I purchase physically on blu-ray, mainly sticking to "desert island" films.

And besides, we're talking about an annual subscription that costs less than three standalone Criterion releases at MSRP.

Are there comparison screens anywhere of Criterion Blu-rays and the Criterion Channel quality? I've been let down by streaming quality time and time again.
