One thing specific to me is I bought a lot of used discs from rental places. When Hollywood Video and MovieStop went out of business they had discs for under a dollar. I still have to look through my collection for things I bought but never watched.

Recently, when I watch one of those discs I'm also checking to see if it still works.

I don't like buying used so much anymore... I mean,... it's good in some ways but rental places discs often look like they had strange adventures.

I had a feeling my copy of "Adore" that I bought for $4 was actually damaged and it was but thankfully not OOP yet so I was thrilled to find out and replace it.

[Show spoiler] Adore Blu-ray delivers stunning video and audio in this enjoyable Blu-ray release... Naomi Watts is reason enough for me to watch anything and it's currently $6.75 ! here in the US at Amazon.

I love the convenience of streaming but I still can't get past the compressed audio. It's my hobby and I'm very picky. I still wonder if they compress the video too. I'm not going to sit there and compare 4K streaming to a 4K disc, though. Sound I know is worse. I can't even hear the surrounds.

technically both have compressed audio. But yeah usually it is better on physical media.

They both certainly have compressed video.

The audio on discs is typically lossless compression. And I can usually notice the higher quality audio tracks.

We are in the middle of season 6 and so far have had two different disc that hung at a certain spot using a Sony UBP-X1000ES. Did not try the first disc but I put the second disc in our Oppo UDP-203 and it played over the same spot without issues. This would imply a better spinner or error correction or both in the Oppo.

It will be interesting to see how the new Tascam or Reavon players handle problem disc.

Need to see if anyone makes a test disc that will test for error correction.

This is a very bold claim unless you were watching on Amazon Prime or FandangoNow.

Yes, it was Amazon Prime. It was just glaringly obvious. I was like where are the surrounds? I thought I had something set wrong. WandaVision seemed ok, though, on Disney+ now that I think about it.

Compare Atmos on disc and Atmos on iTunes/Netflix/D+ of the same content. Be faithful in your comparison. If possible do a blind test and then come to a conclusion.

One Atmos mix that sounded dodgy on iTunes was John Wick 3. The disc clearly sounded better.

That would be a fair comparison. Amazon Prime sucks. It's okay for casual viewing though.

China alone turned in a massive $70.3 million. The Legendary and Warner Bros. tentpole doesn't open in the U.S. until next week.

Box Office: 'Nobody' is Somebody With No. 1 $6.7M Debut - Hollywood Reporter 3/28/21

Bob Odenkirk's new action revenge-thriller Nobody was a somebody at the weekend box office, opening to a pleasing $6.7 million domestically as more theaters in Los Angeles and the rest of West Coast reopen.

The top markets were Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Phoenix and Chicago, with L.A. producing eight of the top 25-grossing theaters. Still, Nobody played evenly across the country.

The audience was 47 percent Caucasian, 21 percent Hispanic, 18 percent African American and 6 percent Asian. It skewed male (62 percent) and older, with 44 percent of ticket buyers over 35.

Nobody has amassed $5 million so far overseas from for markets.

Internationally, the big headline of the weekend was Legendary's Godzilla vs. Kong, which launched to a pandemic-best $121.8 million at the foreign box office, including a massive $70.3 million in China. The Warner Bros. and Legendary tentpole opens domestically next week.

Elsewhere in North America, family holdovers Raya and the Last Dragon and Tom & Jerry grew their domestic totals to $28.4 million and $37.1 million after earning $3.5 million and $2.5 million for the weekend, respectively.

Chaos Walking followed in third place with $1.9 million for a domestic total of $11.5 million, while The Courier earned $1 million in its second outing for a total $3.5 million.

Purchased the Complete Series of Spartacus on BD for $22.99. Never did finish the show. I was initially thrown off because Fandango NOW offer the first 3 seasons of it in SDR 4K for $9.99 each season. As far as content and even on audio specs alone, the BD set is the clear winner. Fandango NOW is weird on how they label their offerings.

Just watched Promising Young Woman and loved it. This is one of those movies that will stay with me for a bit. Carey Mulligan was perfect in it.

My Spartacus Complete Series BD set arrived today and I was surprised at the new packaging. It's a 13 disc set in CD sized case, with a slipbox. It's downright adorable.
