It's a toss up for me as they are both overstuffed, big budget epics with hammy, scene chewing acting; ginormous, beautiful sets; excellent, frame filling, giant screen cinematography; and loaded with Hollywood stars of the day and yesteryear cameos.

I noticed alot of 4K BDs using very old 4K scans like Ten Commandments, Rear Window, and Dr. Strangelove (though that one doesn't use an OCN) don't show alot of resolution increase in caps, why is that?

Part (most?) of it may very well be the source (OCN) and quality of such.

However, depending on the scanner used 11 years ago in the case of this film, it might not yield as much detail as a newer scanner but just speculating.

Seems as if the wisdom that resolution isn't everything applies here. Despite sourcing from an 6K scan of a prestigious film format, resolution-wise-from-a-screencap-perspective it gets beaten by newer 4K scans of less prestigious film format.

What do you mean? I like it when millionaire actors get on stage and lecture me on how to feel about social issues. They are really in-touch with what regular life is like in the urban city. (or country)

Besides the production, cast and crew, The Ten Commandments is a much better movie.

If wasn't for the after parties to get the free food, drinks and drugs, nobody would go to those award ceremonies because they're boring as hell. The show is edited for television due to the time, but the entire ceremony is longer when you're there in person. Imagine sitting through that boredom for four hours plus.

Decided to pick this up. It was a blind buy. I'm not religious whatsoever so that's probably why I never watched it.

Really don't need to be religious for this one..It certainly helps, but it's also just classic Hollywood through and through. A story's a story!

This kind of looks like the 6k scan was downscaled to 2k for the 2011 BD, and then they took that BD 2K master and upscaled it back to 4k for this release.
I feel like there should definitely be more detail and better grain management if they actually went back to that 6k scan for this release.

My copy shipped from DD at $16.62. Did anybody find a better price? I posted the savings earlier.

As mentioned, it could be that the older 6k scan didn't pick up as much detail as the latest scanning tech, or the restoration used too much digital grain management when fixing tears and scratches, wiping away some detail in the process; or the source film just didn't have a lot of detail to begin with due to age and/or cinematography techniques used at the time.

I never looked at this film as anything more than a 50's epic spectacle. Watch it for the sheer scale of the production. This is back when they really did have "a cast of thousands."

That said, Yul Brenner and the lovely Anne Baxter stand out with some really meaty performances, eclipsing Charlton Heston. He shifted into way too much melodrama, especially during the latter parts.

I've always felt that Brenner is underrated in this. Hell, I find myself telling people, "So let it be written. So let it be done." I of course get blank stares most of the time.

That would be my assumption as well, which is almost unbelievable.
