I was thinking the same the other day. I want to say that I hope he is okay, but I don't want to jinx it.

Maybe, people love Fight Club because it executes it's themes well and has actually great characters and directing. There is nothing Pseudo about any of Nolan films. They are all legitimately dripping with intelligence, wit and verisimilitude.

Even in the 90s, Fight Club always struck me as a film trying clearly trying a bit too obviously to be cool. It's an interesting movie to be sure but the much heralded "twist" at the end to is actually the worst part of the film to me. While it's by no means a terrible movie, I've always found it to be overrated and the admiration some people have for it a bit difficult to fathom.
Incidentally, I rather liked Edward Norton back in the day but it seems his career has floundered to say the least. This was no doubt hastened by his reputation for being difficult to work with. Brad Pitt, however, shows little sign of slowing down. Last edited by AreaFive; 04-05-2021 at 02:32 AM. |

I'm not a teenager. I don't care if a movie is "smart" or "cool". I just want to be entertained. All of David Fincher's films are very entertaining to me, as are the films of Christopher Nolan. If that causes others to have a negative opinion, it's nothing to me.
If you don't like Fincher/Nolan films, or any other movie, great. But when you criticize others for liking what you don't...that's not an "unpopular movie opinion". That's just you being a ****. |

We can at least agree that Shape of Water > Green Book, right?
I’d even put it over Argo, The Artist, and Spotlight (and I like all the aforementioned films). Birdman, 12 Years a Slave, and Moonlight are still my favorite Best Picture winners of the last decade. |

You should ask my wife...
Yeah, I found The Shape of Water to be incredibly simplistic and overly fantastical. It seems like an odd thing to throw at what is supposed to play like a fable, but the movie doesn't really look or act like one. It's too literal visually most of the time, a problem that Pan's Labyrinth doesn't share. I was so excited to see it the first time, being a fan of del Toro in general and being so happy for him that he had won Best Picture for it, but as the movie progressed I just got more and more deflated. There's more sympathy for the literal Fascist Vidal in Pan's Labyrinth than there is for Strickland in The Shape of Water. |

I found Spotlight to be highly overrated.

I'm not going to Lie, for a second there I was finding myself on the same page as DV.
I rate Leo Decap, really do. I know he's not everyone's cuppa joe, but still..... Then my adult judgement got the better of me, I've burned all my LDC films and will never utter his name again.....it's either that, or agree with....... |
