Not a spoof. Action with a dash of comedy.

In fact, since the mid-80s, I've only agreed with their Best Picture choice six times. Six times since like 1984. 36 Oscar seasons ago. I've agreed with Best Director only 8 times. (Two extra times, where Picture and Director split, and I agreed with the Director winner, but not the Picture winner).

I had a much better record with them in the 70s , but not always matching up.

But this past decade is the first time I hadn't a single time that I agreed with Picture or Director.

And it's not extremes here, I'm not saying the Picture and Director winners they choose usually are terrible, they are usually good films. They're just not what my choice is personally, in that given year, for what is actually best.

Best Picture winners are usually a joke-- I think it was the 90's when I was most happy with their choices--- Silence Of The Lambs, Braveheart, Forrest Gump, Titanic, Unforgiven... actually restored my faith in the Academy...

of course then they gave it to Shakespeare In Love and everything went back to "normal"...

The Award has never really been about what's best for the year. When they seem to "get it right" always feels like a happy accident.

But, ultimately, I just don't care about the Oscars. It's an overlong parade of self-important people congratulating each other. At best, the list of Oscar winners is an interesting look at the evolution of Hollywood's perception of itself.

Starring Bob Odenkirk. From The Ben Stiller Show. From Mr. Show. Stevie Grant, the a-hole agent from The Larry Sanders Show. He's a badass action star now.

I give up. Fire up the Cloud Car, Lando. I'm comin' to visit.

Remember when Paul Bettany tried to become an action star?

That was hilarious.

Actors doing comedy and action? How dare he! The audacity! What is this world coming to?

"Shakespeare in Love" was actually one of those two times that I was referring to where I agreed with their Best Director choice but not Picture. (Spielberg won Director for "Saving Private Ryan", which I was fine with). The other time was when Oliver Stone won Director for "Born on the Fourth of July", but "Driving Miss Daisy" won for Picture.

I stopped watching the Oscars years ago. I will see who won out of curiosity, and if there was someone I cared about who won, or a big memorable moment or anything, than I'll just watch that part the next day on Youtube or something. I don't watch the whole ceremony, ever, and I don't watch any other awards shows, either. I gave up on all of that years ago.

I don't have a problem with actors trying different things. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't. I just can't buy Odenkirk as a serious action star. The poster for Nobody, intentional or not, is hysterical. I can't buy him as an ass-kicker.

The above picture is a perfect example of "sometimes it doesn't".

I utterly HATED Bruce Willis' 'Blues' period. Oh God, I cringe so badly just thinking of it, slightly.

Remember his Seagrams Golden Wine Coolers commercial? Jesus God, it was awful....

Oh yeah, I 'member. When he hosted SNL in 1988 or so, he poked fun at those ads. It wasn't enough. The damage had been done.

I would love to see a list of celebrities trying things that made the whole world scratch its head. Don Johnson singing "Heartbeat". Michael Jordan trying to play baseball. Tom Hanks in an adult film. (Okay, that last one never happened. I can dream, can't I?)

Ugh... Now, you've made think of Don Johnson at the studio mic looking up at the camera and winking.....

Crispin Glover released an album. Sounds like something you'd hear on Dr. Demento or one of those old oddity shows. The lead song Clowny Clown Clown, and its music video, which he directed, is like a bad acid trip. He also did a cover of Ben for the remake of Willard and directed that music video too. They're both very strange, but exactly what you'd expect from someone like Crispin Glover.

I actually like David Lynch's music, but most actors and directors need to stick to their day jobs.

Scarlett Johansson did a terrible album around 2006 or so. She did a cover of a song called, "Falling Down", that was sooooo cringey.

Mercifully, she seems to have abandoned any music aspirations after that.

Remember when Brie Larson was going to be Christina to Avril Lavine’s Britney? No? Me neither. But it happened.

Jennifer Love Hewitt has a couple of albums too.
