She's been played by black actress Eartha Kitt and Halle Berry but the character was originally drawn white in the comics.

Yes.

Originally envisioned as a black character. Because of racial tensions at the time changed to a white character in the comics... hey, you said name one, first that came to mind~ planet earth has come a long way since, thank divinity

I don't want to sound racist or anything but I just can't see an african-american Bond. I just think it wouldn't fit the general feel of the franchise.

I know a black person can shoot, run, woo ladies and what not, but Bond stems originally from a certain British time period and cultural background ... which just doesn't fit with a black person.

The same goes for other roles as well. Any white person cast in a part set in medieval Japan or China also doesn't sit well with me (ahum, Tom Cruise in Last Samurai, ahum!). The same goes for a movie like Bad Boys. Had the main actors been replaced by white or asian actors, it just wouldn't have been the same movie.

Some roles are perfectly interchangeable, but some roles either due to cultural and historical backgrounds or simply due to a certain atmosphere can't be played by people of a different race, in my opinion. I think the role of Bond falls into that category.

The original early '80s 'Bad Boys' with Sean Penn was much better IMO. But they aren't the same movie, just share the same title.

Not sure what direction that is supposed to take. I didn't say originally appeared AS, I said orginally envisioned as... It was in afterwords/Q&A after I think it was the year one series? Maybe some other mini around the same time?

Besides that, she wasn't originally catwoman, just the cat~ things change over the years

Just don't think that Will Smith would be a believable Bond. JB has a very long tradition and changes in the character can easily backfire.

Yup white mother and black father who Obama was named after. They divorced but not until after Barack Obama Jr. was born. Obama Jr. went to live with his maternal grandparents in Hawaii and went to school there for quite a few years.

Now its hard for me to imagine a black bond but Idris would definitely be a sweet Bond if they decided to go black.

I think that Chiwetel Ejiofor would make a good Black Bond.

As long as he is British, not American. Sorry but Will Smith lack's the the British style that Bond need's to have in order to play him. He's got many order role he can play, leave Bond to British actors.

I'd rather have a movie about this man:

Josh Brolin apparently did a good job playing him in the biopic film. I haven't seen it yet, on my to see list. But, Dave did a good job.

If jamie foxx is the next bond, I will refuse to watch it. I just don't like him. Now diddy or will smith, I could see doing well.

But yeah, I'm against the idea of making him Black for the sake of him being the "first Black Bond". Some people were voting for Obama for similar reasons. It's disgusting. Giving preferential treatment to Blacks isn't racial equality, it's racially biased. If the next dude who they choose to be Black, that's fine, but they don't need to set out thinking "let's make Bond Black this time". That's weak.

The direct-sequelness of it is questionable in my opinion. The entire tone and look of the films took a major shift when Schumaker came on, and while one might argue it's the same continuity despite different aesthetics, I'd say that Dent going from Billy Dee Williams in one film to Tommy Lee Jones in another is no worse than Gotham changing or Bruce Wayne changing. Anyway, you really wanted to see Billy Dee Williams as Two Face? I'm glad they didn't do that, it'd have looked absurd.

This is the racial double standard. Characters normally defined as White are able to swap to Black, but NAACP would flip their lids if a normally Black character switched to white.

NAACP hah! Where's the NAAWP? Why is NAACP supposedly not racist, while a NAAWP would be?
Guess who was offered the role of James Bond before Sean Connery?

Robert Wagner - and he turned it down, because (to quote him)..."James Bond was written as a BRITISH secret agent".

'Nuff said!
