FALSE. Allow me to correct your wrong-thinking.

Rome season 1 and 2 = 1320 minutes = 22 hours

$97.99 divided by 22 = $4.45 per hour.

A 90 minute movie at (good price)$14.99 = $10.00 per hour

As you can see, Rome, at $97.99 is a smoking HOT deal at less than half price than what is considered a "good deal"

You are welcome. Now order it.

It's actually only a small increase than the current DVD prices, with such a quality show I think this price is great.

The DVDs were more expensive when they were first released.

Rome was a fantastic series, and I cannot wait to add it to my Blu-ray library.

That price for both seasons isn't that bad at all, it might drop a bit before release as well.

I'll be picking this up. I passed on the DVD releases knowing something better would come my way. If they treat Rome like BoB with PQ/AQ, it'll be another must have!

Oh...and the whole blood soaked sacrafice etc...I can watch it again for sure...Yes, please, and thank you HBO.

You're probably right, but i really wanna date so i cross off the days like a kid anticipating Christmas. I will need to have all home remodeling and surround system complete by this date, because i won't get a single thing done for the next two weeks after. I'd really love it if we got all three seasons at once like they're doing for Rome. Yeah, i was half-joking about the sacrifice. It's a good show, but i think i'm content with my DVR recordings for now. It just doesn't have that ONE character that I absolutely love like my precious Deadwood. Everyone on Rome seems to be despicable, albeit in completely different ways.

Comparing cost for a movie and a TV series on Blu is just wrong. Production values on film is much higher then TV, as well as the amount of time it takes to make a film. Using your comparison, Rome SHOULD cost $220 on Blu. Sopranos would cost about $800. MASH would be about $1300.

I still buy a lot of TV on DVD (personal opinion, but I don't see PQ and AQ do be that big of a deal on "Seinfeld") but have purchased a few Blu's.

I think a reasonable price for TV on DVD is about $1/hour (I don't differentiate between pay telivision and comercial TV for this). I got Six Feet Under for $60. Deadwood and Sopranos set me back more (but not a lot). Just got "Angel" for $56 for $110 hours.

For Blu, I want to eventually pay about the same as DVD's, but that is dreaming for now. But, I would like to keep it down to $2/hour. Star Trek TOS came close (29 episodes (I think) for $65). My older purchases all were a lot higher (Firefly, Planet Earth, Band of Brothers...).

So, $4.45/hour is NOT a smoking hot deal for Rome. But I think that manufacturers are trying to gage what the market will bear. I believe the price will come down.

That said, I am stunned that Star Trek is my most reasonably priced TV series on Blu. ST series are always overpriced on DVD.

Most of them were (like most of their real world conterparts ), but I liked Ceasar's portrayal in the series. He didn't come off as despicable to me, but I am fascianted with Ceasar as a historical figure.....

I know that Rome deserves it but for me it's too much. I'm just comparing the prices of other shows on Blu-Ray. Anyway it will drop of course so no rush

If you look on Amazon, the 2 seasons of Rome on Blu are only $5 more than the current price of seasons 1 and 2 package for the DVD set. I think it is price fairly.

Awesome. A great show and it is two seasons. For the production values alone, it is easy to justify the price (in my view). A clear pre-order for me. Great news.

You're right, Caesar is the closet one to being "decent," but even he comes off as a little baby so i can't root for him at all either. I dunno, i'm pretty sure there were people during the Roman empire with some integrity, but i guess that doesn't get people to tune in. I appreciate some aspects of the show, but most of the time it seems to be raunch, just for the sake of raunch.

HBO series tend to have more in common with film production quality than TV series. Rome particularly was monstrously expensive. It was lucky to get a second season. They did not opt for a 3rd cycle because the production costs would have to be justified by being a massive hit on the order of Sopranos. It was not.

It so deserved to be, though.

I see you are an informed individual. From wiki...

The network made it a full-fledged series.[1] In 2002, HBO and the BBC agreed to co-produce a new series based on the events of the "Roman Revolution". Towards that end, the two networks committed a US$100-110 million. The last major collaboration effort before Rome, was the Emmy awarded series, Band of Brothers. Rome was and still is the biggest co-produced series with the American film marked in BBC's history.

It was a huge undertaking, with an international crew of 350, and more than 50 local Italian interns. The production is regarded as one of the most expensive in the history of TV series. Funding was generously employed to recreate an impressively detailed set featuring a number of Roman Villas, the forum and a vast slum area of the ancient city of Rome.
