Interesting discussion here.

I was invited by a friend to first watch this movie and have a discussion party with a number of people on this matter. So I guess I'll rent this and see what it's all about.

Personally, I'm convinced there is a God who created all things, and he sent his Son to save us from our sins.

That said, there are many things religious people do that don't make sense (and are not found in the Bible). Like the picture on the movie cover, etc. Even though there are these ridiculous things that some do, I don't see how that invalidates religion in general (though I'm not sure what Bill's point is yet since I still have to rent it.).

I'm interested to see the interviews and discuss why Bill and others come to these conclusions.

don't expect much and remember this is a comedy first documentary second and that only in style. There were however some interesting things in this movie that i did not know, as far as similarities among some religions and older religions and subject matter discussed within could make for an interesting conversation as long as both sides keep an open mind.

was about 3 hours of talk after a showing of this with my family

I think it should be out on blu.... why not all new releases should be.

And considering the footage I am willing to bet they have hours of unseen interviews and clips.... sounds perfect for blu and the space available for special features.

ha ha don't get me wrong i would love to see it, just don't think it would happen, and can't see much of an improvement, at least for me it would not warrant the price tag they would need to make it worth it for them to do. Not the type of content i am salivating to see in 1080p with HD sound.

@rob, in the movie from memory are Christianity, Catholicism, Mormons, Scientology, Muslim, Judaism

Sad, I saw him when he did stand up and he was funny as hell.
If you feel that questioning something is equal to ridiculing it, then you my friend have some issues with rationality.
And yes, Bill does want to learn why people believe so strongly in what they do. He asks questions, and even admits that he doesn't know one way or the other. His issue is with people that are so matter-of-fact about something that none of us could truly know the answer to.

Are you aware that you falsely label yourself? You are actually agnostic.

best line of the movie(So if you think heaven is way better than earth why don't you just kill yourself). I think religion does more damage than good it is a product of man. And did you know the swine flu is evolving , bacteria evolves into super bugs and just a few thousand years a go we painted on walls now we talk on the internet machine. Now back to bluray

Because you will go to hell. I'm not even religious but that line isn't that great.

"Religion is dangerous because it allows human beings who don’t have all the answers to think that they do. Most people would think it’s wonderful when someone says, ‘I’m willing Lord, I’ll do whatever you want me to do.’ Except that since there are no gods actually talking to us, that void is filled in by people with their own corruptions and limitations and agendas."

Great quote from the movie.

Ok, since we're citing great quotes from the film now. I will share a couple of mine.

How do you feel about them saying marijuana effects the short term memory?
So, how do you feel about them saying marijuana effects the short term memory?
And...
YOUR HAIR IS ON FIRE!!!!!!!!

I laughed so hard I had tears

Another one is: You don't have to pass an I.Q. test to be in the senate. ha ha ha

Great quote from the movie.
I see your point - some religions are dangerous - for others, we've seen that many, many times.

If only people kept these 2 rules - "Love the Lord your God with all your heart..." and "Love your neighbor as yourself". That's not so dangerous, is it?

If that is true then why don't we see this process of evolution continue today? Why haven't we as man evolved in to something higher by now? Look around at the trees, the animals and the stars. There has to be a Divine Creators hand at work here. And the truly intelligent and rational thinking person would see that.
The Devine Creators are Aliens from another world...we are here for their amusment.

It is very dangerous. Considering that the majority of life that has been wrongfully taken on this planet has been by someone just acting out of love for their god and neighbor.

I have yet to see the movie, but I plan too see it.

I love Bill Maher, he's funny but he never converted me to his way of thinking, just like any other "so call journalist/documentary maker" of his type. I do not need him, Micheal Moore or Jeannine Gerafalo to tell me what I should think or believe. Usualy they are biase only to their point of view and they fail to truly listen to others. If anyone want's to jump on their band-wagon, please do so, I got better things to do then to try convice you how ridiculous they all sound sometimes.

As for God, well yes I believe that He's around. The Universe is evolving but I see God as the big manager of it all. But I don't believe He created Adam in a few hours using mud on the ground. Again if you want to belive this and by pass all the scientific knowledge that's been accumulated on the centuries, please go ahead, I got better things to do then trying to convince you.

As for religions, I hate all of them, plain in simple. I hate religion for the same reason everyone else does. It relieves the believer of personal responsibility,
critical thinking abilities, and coherent thought processes.....in short, it makes you stupid. Believe in God but don't listen to old diaper wearing men telling you that they hold all the answers. Listen to your own heart and you will actualy hear God talking to you. Bypass the priests, deacons, iman....all of them who are so corrupted and senile that I would not trust them with nothing.
