Technically Tarantino is a boomer as he was born right on the cusp, but his mass consumption and regurgitation of pop culture from the Gen-X era nudges him into that generation.

Criterion has a suggestion email you can use. Every month they get an email from me to release 2001’s L.I.E. (yes, the NC-17 Brian Cox/Paul Dano pedophile movie lol) |

The movies that date the worst for me are contemporaneous ones from the late 1960s. Having lived through those times, I find it hard to deal with go-go dancing, Nehru shirts/jackets, and other fashion (or other general cultural artifacts) of the time. (Though I still love the music.)

Jon Mulvaney just sent me a new book case and four new discs for my Godzilla set, the ones damaged by faulty glue in the disc sleeves.
You know why he took care of it personally? …it was outta respect. |

Another example of 'datedness' is 'The Twilight Zone' show(the 60's version) : a show I used to love when I was younger but now it's fairly annoying. Among other things, its so-called “life lessons” are painfully obvious, as is the entire series except for a few better than average episodes. Even that show was was heavily entrenched in the politics of it's time too. Time is a revealer of great art. Last edited by TV2693; 05-07-2021 at 05:02 AM. |

![]() I'll give it another try when TCM shows it again. Maybe I was just irritable that day. During this 30% off the regular price month on the Criterion site I'm going to buy Rififi to keep Topkapi the company it's missing. |

I agree with you that the writing (and direction and performances) keeps TZ impressive. At the same time, I think TV2693's view can't quite be dismissed. Rod Serling and his crew presented some amazing, thematically engaging stories (as did a lot of the other "plays for television" anthology shows of the time), but watching them from today's perspective, they can seem a little too obvious.

Also, some of the series' best episodes involve twist endings that, once you know what's coming, present diminishing returns on repeat viewings. Certainly the show is an all-time great and nothing will change that. I have found, however, that I don't get anywhere near as much out of them now as I did when I was younger. |

Anybody watch that IFC comedy show Documentary Now? I was with Tarantino on the whole film vs digital debate till I saw that show. They shoot their episodes on digital camera, then put the footage through something called LiveGrain and perfectly emulate any film stock, from Grey Gardens to The Thin Blue Line. I’m converted.
