Default !!!!hd/blu-ray Battle!!!!

Everyone. I am format neutral but i am in favor of blu-ray 100%. I had the chance of getting an HD-DVD player as a gift, and I feel though it is not nearly as good as blu, it is still a good player with some value. The reason for this post is for everyone to comment on why they hate one format or the other so bad. When do you think this format war will end. Honestly i think it will be awhile. I also think Warner Bros. is feeling pretty good with all the money microsoft is gearing up to give them if they go HD-DVD exclusive. i have a feeling a lot of big things are about to expode onto the scene that could go either in favor of BLU or HD-DVD. What are your ideas. I don't want bashing of either formats, but your own personal views.

I don't like HD DVD because its potential has already been realized after only being out for a year. I really couldn't care less about who backs it, but Blu-ray can offer me a better movie experience than HD DVD. I really don't know how HD DVD is preferred by anyone who truly enjoys movies/technology.

see i both agree and disagree with you. i feel that both are quite good. but i view hd-dvd as the xbox 360 core or ps3 20gb while blu-ray is the xbox360 premium/elite or the ps3 60gb/80gb if that makes sense. HD-DVD offers really good material, but it has some big constraints. The picture is beautiful, and the in movie experience is good, but the disc space sucks. Blu-ray is hands down the preferable choice, and the future of entertainment. but honestly to say that HD-DVD sucks really is not true. yes you like blu-ray better, but hd-dvd is still good. BStecke i wasn't using you as an example of this last post by the way, i was using the people on this board as an example of lashing out on HD-DVD sucking. maybe you do think it sucks, that is your own preferance.

Ok . . . but Blu-ray can do everything HD DVD can do and more. So why even have HD DVD as an option? Movies like the extended versions of LOTR, if squeezed onto an HD DVD, are going to be smooth and lacking in detail due to the space constraints. You can already see this in longer movies like Superman Returns. Sure, right now a lot of the movies available in HD and BD look the same, but a lot of the movies, especially from Warner, could be much better, but they're lacking because they have to cater to HD DVD and Blu-ray. The existence of HD-DVD is forcing a lesser quality product in BD.

the same reason they have the xbox core, its cheaper. to be honest, if i didn't get the hd-dvd as a gift i would never have gotten it. but if you want to experience universal in hd its a good choice, because it really is as breathtaking as blu. just not overall the same technical juggernaut.

Default Ps3

I am a early Blu-Ray Supporter because of my PS3. It does everything. I would never pay 600 Dollars for just a standalone player which was what I paid for my PS3 at the time when Blu-Ray was like a grand or so. My PS3 was the only reason I bought an HDTV. So naturaly I was a Tru-Blu Fan when I got my first movie and the images and sounds blew me away. Also the fact we have more support only makes me even a more proud Blu-Ray Supporter. I hope this war ends Christmas. It needs to end so Blu-Ray sales can grow leaps and bounds even beyound combined BLU-RAY and HD-DVD Sales. It needs to happen so one day we will see Blu-Ray sales actually surpassing DVD. That will be a true landmark for Blu-Ray.

Blu-ray all the way for me but then you already knew that because why else would I be here I own both formats, I'm enjoying Blu-ray more with their unique interface, not the crappy interface that Universal has on all their movies. I'm also enjoying better sound with loseless audio on Blu-ray and near-perfect PQ due to MPEG-4 AVC. I also like the PS3 Blu-ray player better then the XBOX 360 add-on, I don't like the slow speed, the lagginess, the way it fast forwards & rewinds, the lack of bluetooth remote control, ...

buddy i am sorry, but when you say pro blu 100%, yet you are a neutral this should mean you are 50/50 on both format. Since you have an HDDVD and probably spent money on HDDVD films. if you support BD more you should go BD all the way. Thats what BD needs.

I know that you didn't say that you bought HD DVD discs. but when you say that the format is of value i have to assume you bought some HDDVD movies.

definitely have. but the thing is i have both players why not use them both to their full potential. if a film is released on hd and blu i get the blu. the thing here is i know that that blu ray will win. i want it to win. i am a blu supportor 100%. hd-dvd is good, just not as good as blu. see everyone thinks people going neutral is a crime to the whole format war and drags it out. maybe it does. but at the same time. if every hd-dvd person only bought hd-dvd and every blu-ray only bough blu then it would be a deadlock anyway. i buy more blu than hd. there is nothing wrong with that. i will use both formats to MY ADVANTAGE. nothing wrong with that. when one dies (hd-dvd probably) i will still have those hd movies.

My problem is not with hd dvd it is with the people behind it They are not letting the consumer decide. The majority of early adopters have picked bluray and now the hddvd camp is saying oh no you don't we want you to use our weaker product. We are going to bribe, blow, rip tear pull hair do what ever it takes to get you to our product. Well they only had to do one thing and it was right in front of them the whole time BUILD A BETTER HIDEF FORMAT THAN BLURAY and they didn't so here we are. When I read the specs for bluray and hddvd my choice was made blu had better numbers and more thought put into it. Thats how simple it was and now hddvd want to change the rules because they are loosing. bla bla bla you know the rest if warner flips for hd dvd this whole hidef format war will be dead no one will go near hd on disc with a ten foot pole. Maybe hd dvd are trying to drag down blu with them.

see you raise very good thorough points. i respect your answers a lot more than the people who say HD-DVD (hd-dud) sucks! its stupid! go blu because hd-dvd sucks! and thats all they say. you ask them why and they say, because it sucks... and i just feel like wow. are you 10? but thank you for honest answers with meaning. i appreciate it.

ultimately I 'hate' HD-DVD because it has less space and lower bandwidth then Blu-ray (Source) and when we are talking about the format that wins, we are talking about (if DVD is an indication) 10 - 12 years and I don't want to have such a limited format when we have a format that surpasses the functionality of HD-DVD.

But you, and all of the other neutralites, buying HD-DVDs is keeping the inferior product thriving and thus prolonging any possibility of getting the HD-DVD titles you seem to like so much in a much more complete and true Hi-Def experience... A.K.A. BLU-RAY!!!

Using your Xbox360 comparison... if I wanted to ensure that I was getting the best gaming experience out of an Xbox360 unit, I would have waited to purchase it when an HDMI version came out! In the same way, the titles exclusive to HD-DVD can't come to be produced in their ULTIMATE Hi-Def version if people in the neutral category keep HD-DVD in the game!

Hi.just joined your forum. I have a sony bluray player connected to lg 5.2 surround soud via hdmi. The surround sound supposedly detects the sound. If i play normal dvd it changes to 5.2 dolby digital. If i play bluray it changes to stereo pcm. Why doesnt it want to play surround sound in pcm format from bluray? The bluray player is set on 5.1. I tried 3 different disks. Im fairly new to digital sound and HD
