Default Trying to quit smoking

Planed on quiting smoking today cold turkey. Made it through the morning but then I started to get scatter brained and I broke down and had one. Im still going to quit. I was wondering if any one has any advice. Thanks.

The thing about quitting smoking is that you have to be mentally prepared to do this. This is not a thing you do on a whim, because you think you should. If that's the case...you'll fail.

I still smoke, but there was a time when I quit for 3 years (cold turkey method). I was ready to quit and I succeeded...then went back (long story).

I hope you succeed in quitting! Good luck!

This is right. I quit last July. Cold turkey. No regrets. No relapses. Do I still urge? On occasion but if you're really dedicated to quiting you simply won't smoke.

End of story.

I had been planning on quiting today for over a month. So I hoped I would be ready. I also told myself I wouldn't get mad if I failed. I would just try again and again until it works.

Everyone is different, so maybe after a month of thinking about it you are ready. I know I wouldn't be. In fact, I've been contemplating quitting again (for good this time) for well over a year. I tried it about 4 months ago and it lasted for 2 days...I wasn't ready yet! One day I will be.....and I think I'll know when the time comes.

I've been smoking for ten plus yrs, thinking about maybe I should quit it, haven't made up my mind yet, and I agree that it's all about mentality.

I want to quit as well but I'm not ready. There are times more often than not that I hate doing it and my clothes stink. I had to buy some in New York and about crapped when they told me the price, and that was with those $4 off four pack coupons.

I smoked a pack a day for 12 years, I quit 2 1/2 years ago and don't miss it. Few tips I have:

Buy the 1 week supply of the patch, if you make it through the first week you're practically home free, a little will power and finding some tasks/chores to fill your spare time will take you the rest of the way.

Good luck!!

I'v thought about the patch. The last time I tried to quit I used Commit. It helped me cut back, but it was expensive. A friend had some sucess with the gum. I hear it dosent taste as bad as it used to.

Never beginning is the best way to quit. Never wanted to even when peers at school would push for it. Like it's so hard to understand that it's very unhealthy ?

With respect quexos we know that, but not everything works out quite the way we would like them to. Glad you never had to urge or desire or inclination to even start, but we did.

So now it's about trying to present the OP with options and opinions about how to become smoke-free.

This whole being ready to quit thing kinda confuses me. I want to quit and have wanted to for a long time. But being ready. Does that mean preparing in some way, or changing your habits before you quit, or just saying to yourself this is it.

I think it's one of those things that you have to constantly think about and tell yourself that it's time. Build up determination. You can do it from a health perspective (which is the most important thing), but also think about the money you'll save. Thinking about how you'll occupy yourself when you want a smoke. Maybe go for a walk (even 5 minutes, until the urge leaves), move to a different setting from where you are when the urge strikes, those kinds of things.

Does any of this make sense?

Yea it does. I am determined. Even if it takes 100 tries. I'll do something different each time. Eventually I will find something that works. Thanks everyone for the advice.

Ive been on again and of again smoking for 14 years( HOLY SHIT). Wow, anyway For me when I want to quit(again) I start to excersise. Just yesterday I went hiking on a mountain here in Phoenix and it kicked my ass. My chest was hurting and felt dizzy. This is a hike I used to do with no problems about 4 days a week. After a good workout, I don't even want to look at a cigarette. If you do have the time, do ANY kind or excersise just to get started. It is just another way to help quit.

You have to look at it like this though, you pretty much told yourself it's ok to fail, and if you think it's ok to fail ( well at least for smoking) you WILL fail. Go get some nicotine gum, I've been smoke free for a little over 2 years now because of it. You have to have the determination to not smoke, you need to say NO, it is not ok to smoke again and it is NOT ok to just have 1 more. If you're determined you'll quit.

Default I wish you luck.

You will just have to take one day at a time, it will not be easy.

I never smoked cigarettes, but my friends who did quit, some did it
cold turkey, others used different kinds of help. I stated seeing a
counselor to kick a few bad habits myself, and its hard not to go back
to the old ways.

But the key is your own mind control, over the evil stuff.

I wish you all the luck I can.

Life can be so good without junk in our lives.
