Arrow Christian Bale wants to adapt another J.G. Ballard novel

Thought Ernest Rister would like this

Quote:
You'd think that with a franchise already on his plate, and another one likely after Terminator: Salvation, Christian Bale would be hunkering down and focusing on keeping all that muscle intact. But during a press junket for Terminator yesterday, Bale admitted that he may have his eye on starring in another adaptation of a J.G. Ballard novel-- one of Bale's earliest film roles was playing a fictionalized version of Ballard in Empire of the Sun.

As reported at i09, Bale had been in contact with Ballard before his recent death: "I had, had indirect contact with him recently because a director friend of mine, and myself, were looking into optioning one of his books. He's such a great mind, such a great writer."

At the time he wouldn't admit which book it was they were planning to adapt, saying simply "we've got great intentions to make it happen. " But later a tipster wrote in pegging Concrete Island as the likely project, noting "Brad Anderson currently has the rights to make the film and is the director friend he's speaking of."

The book's premise sounds like classic Bale, a story about one man who crashes his Jaguar on an abandoned strip of highway and is forced to survive. He also loses his mind in the process. Will this be Bale's chance to get away from the generic acting he's shown as Batman and John Connor? Or hell, will he ever even have time to get this made?

People sometimes forget Bale is a fantastic actor, and if he does find the time to do this then it will probably do better for him being in it.

as much as i love bale in the batman movies and probably will love his role in terminator, his non-blockbuster movies are where his talents are more on display
he is a great actor and not just "the guy that plays batman"
his smaller movies are great (like Equilibrium, All the Little Animals)
the guy can transform into his roles, you always see the character and not bale
unlike a tom cruise or a will smith where you see them and not the character they are portraying
not that they aren't good actors of course, i really like Will Smith, tom cruise not so much

anyway
i'll watch just about anything with bale's name attached to it
so if he gets this thing made i'll be there opening weekend

also, this dude just doesn't stop!
batman begins/the new world/harsh times in 05, prestige/rescue dawn in 06, 3:10 to Yuma/I'm Not There in 07, TDK in 08, Public Enemies/Terminator in 09

What I like about Bale are his selection of movies. I mean if there a movie poster with Bale's name on it, you would know (most of the time) that the movie is pretty far from bad.

He is interesting to watch too since his roles are always different and diverse.
I do however wish he would play a bad guy sometime instead of "THE MAIN GOOD GUY HERO" :P...

I thought his bests were The Machinist and 3:10 to Yuma.

What?! Bale's "generic" acting in Batman? Yeah, he totally let that movie down. He was exactly what those movies called for. The Dark Knight isn't the second highest grossing movie of all time because Bale put on a "generic" performance. Even to Batman, he brings a gravity to it.

And how can the article call his acting in Terminator "generic". Have they seen it?

I understand Bale has had more demanding roles than Batman, but I've never gotten the impression that he's given less than a 100% in any role he's been in.

Sorry, that last part of that article was nonsense.

+5 BILLION Lol, that part shocked me, Bale and Depp are then two most diverse actors alive, and to call Bale generic, show's somebody who has no brains or sense of genius whatsoever. He's probably a Ben Affleck fan anyways.....

This sounds like it could be cool. I loved Empire of the Sun. Of course I've only seen one movie with Bale that I didn't like, Newsies.

Empire of the Sun was his breakout film in the biz. I wouldn't mind seeing him in another film adaption of a Ballard novel. Also, Misato Eve who was the bald Japanese general in the film is also in two Godzilla films.

I don`t care who acts in the Movie but a J.G Ballard Movie should allways be Directed by David Cronenberg.

I have never seen another 11 year old kid with that much talent before. It was astounding that at such a young age he carried such a huge film so magnificently. Now if only the other 99% of hollywood had a fraction of the talent of that 11 year old.
