Yes, that’s the one. Speeds haven’t settled down yet, highest has been 80, lowest 65. Ping seems great, multi player gaming is super responsive.

4K streaming is absolutely fine, no dipping back to HD etc..

I don’t think the app has a server speed test, I will investigate further though.

The fibre speeds are maybe average compared to what some of you guys are used to but as a single person, it covers all my needs. I wanted to make a clean break from Sky and no regrets.

I have never had this happen before; Amazon sent me a resealed and used blu-ray (Mortal) that was sold and shipped by Amazon and that was listed in "new" condition.

The resealed blu-ray case came in a plastic bag that read "ready to ship." The included digital code had already been redeemed a full six months ago according to the Lionsgate website.

Amazon is sending me a replacement, but it is still a pain in the arse.

Edit: Lionsgate emailed me a new code after providing them with no less than three photos, but they replied super fast, so bravo for their speedy response.

So nice to find rare content on YouTube when you are curious about really old films.

If you want the other look here
Another blu-ray that I had forgot about languishing on my endless wishlist.

It will all work out in the end. I am very disappointed in Amazon for trying to pass this off as new merchandise; they apparently have no shame.

Check out this article. Nothing new for the physical media proponents on this thread but it provides a great distillation of why we love physical media and why it is a superior option to digital streaming. Worth a read.

Great read. Thanks for sharing. The author nailed pretty much everything we have gone round and round with on this thread over the years. The one thing that I hadn’t thought about is referring to movies now as content. It took me back to my college days working in a record store where I got into an argument with the store manager over the fact that she always called the albums “Product.” I quit about two months later joining a different store. One of the last things I said to her was she was better off at the Gap since she had no interest in music, and they had lots of product. Felt like a scene from High Fidelity.

My OCD kicked in with the picture though, not getting past A Few Good Men filed in the F section. Curious if anyone else who files alphabetically would do the same?

I can relate to your job experience. I was a manager for AMC Theaters and Blockbuster for many years and I was always astounded at the number of employees, and managers, who didn't care about watching movies. I never understood why they took a job in an industry they had no interest in.

As for A Few Good Men, guilty as charged. I have it under F in my collection and I consider myself pretty OCD. I guess I see it as not filing movies whose title begins with "The" under T. I have seen AFGM filed both ways though.

Looks like the MGM deal will be done. Sure hope it works out for the best.

Amazon to Buy MGM for $8.45 Billion

Quote:
As expected, Amazon and MGM May 26 announced that they have entered into a definitive merger agreement under which Amazon will acquire MGM for a purchase price of $8.45 billion. MGM has nearly a century of filmmaking history and complements the work of Amazon Studios, which has primarily focused on producing TV show programming.

I use Movie Collector for my database and it drops A and The from the start of a title name for sort purposes.

I chose Movie Collector (2007) because it could use a bar code scanner to read the UPC on the label making the change from FileExpress (DOS flat field database) much easier.

Have all my old LaserDisc and some DVD titles in a spreadsheet.

With Amazon probably the biggest retailer of disc in the world one would think they would have a vested interest in seeing MGM titles on disc do well. IF the new Bond movie is really good and does well at the box office then I think it will be the biggest selling title in a long time.

I use My Movies. It's free and has a companion app for mobile devices that runs $5 if I remember correctly. I can scan the UPC code with my phone and it adds it to my cloud database which can be accessed from the software on the computer. Very cheap and convenient solution.

It has more advanced features you can pay for, such as a disc copier that allows you to create your own digital version of your discs, but it's free functionality is fine for me.

They purchased MGM to bolster their Prime streaming service. I'm fairly certain new titles, like No Time to Die, will get physical releases but I worry about catalog titles. As with every other media corporation they are trying to force people to their streaming service.

I guess that settles it. I am dropping the A also. I have always dropped the The though.

I use My Movies Pro also. One of my favorite features I use is to sort by run time for when my wife heads out to teach a class, so I know the movie I choose to watch will fit into the time I have the house to myself.

When I worked at the Education and Psychology Library at Southern Illinois University all books, papers, and periodicals were always filed ignoring determinant words like "A" and "The" at the beginning of a title. I have always filed my own collections the exact same way.

My new ATV4K arrived yesterday. I ran through some of the apps and I did notice a significant increase in speed and response time. It was not hard to adjust the settings right out of the box. I already had them written down just in case from how they were previously set on my old APTV. I just had to adjust the Chroma and Match Frames. Everything else was already set. Youtube, PRIME, HULU, ATV+, Criterion, Arrow Channel, etc., work fine. I have not gone into VUDU or MoviesAnywhere yet, so can't comment on what folks are experiencing there.

On a separate side note. Looks like HBO MAX removed the 4K/Atmos versions of the most recent theatrical releases and the Snyder Cut. These are now in HD/5.1, so that's a bummer. I will not watch Snyder Cut in HD. My 4K disc set is in transit from the UK.
