No, Lucasfilm rarely shares their release plans with the public before they're ready for a big reveal.

Standard "no plans at this time" etc

The best I can tell you is that it should take less than the 7 years after launch it took to hit DVD, and personally I expect to see the prequels before the OT

Well, we know he'll release it when he feels the format is adopted enough.

Q: Will we see the Indy and Star Wars series in hi-def soon?

George Lucas:
That'll probably happen eventually. We're going to wait until
Blu-ray gets a little bit more establised first, because it's
only just won the hi-def war. It's got a year or two to get
some actual fission going.

Sounds pretty positive that we won't have to wait as long as we did for the DVD.

OK, shoot me, I'll take DNR over excessive grain anyday. I don't care if grain is intended by the filmmaker. I hate it.

Are we still likely to see the original Indiana Jones by end of year?

I thought A.I. was brilliant but thought Minority Report seemed forced. I'd love to have the former on Blu-ray.

This was just posted on the bits page:

Okay... so I've seen Paramount's new Star Trek movie Blu-rays. I'm not going to review the complete set for a couple days, but I know there have been a lot of concerns about the video quality, following the release of the discs in Europe late last month. As such, I've been getting TONS of e-mail from readers with questions about the issue. So in order to be able to advise you all on the matter prior to street date tomorrow (Tuesday), I've been fortunate to obtain preview copies in order to evaluate the video and audio quality. I've looked at all of the films in detail, have made notes and am preparing my thoughts. I'll have them for you here later this morning, or very early this afternoon. I just wanted to jump in here early to let you all know in advance to watch for them.

Back later, so stay tuned...

*Cheers Bill on*

Not that I'll cancel either way. Having paid $43 and change, I'm happy either way.

I'll be keeping most of my DVDs anyway, for the extended cuts.

They said that about Patton. I'll take the DNR in Patton over excessive grain any day. I expected the PQ to be dull. The picture didn't really look all that soft. Personally, I think the loss of detail from removing grain is WAY over-estimated. I watched the standard dvd LOTR on my blu-ray player which uses the HQV chip for upscaling. That didn't even touch the worst blu-ray transfer & I'm watching a 65" 1080p display from only 13' away. I think there's probably a minimal amount of grain they could remove w/o the human eye seeing too much detail loss, but having a big plus on the PQ side. Based on my experience of watching roughly 75 blu-rays, it seems that DNR has less of a negative impact on the human eye than grain does. It's sort of like the two are almost weighted differently. While it is a fact that DNR does remove detail, is it an amount the naked eye can REALLY pick up? You won't really be losing detail you can't see in the first place. Maybe the positive of DNR outweighs the negative of grain to the naked and/or "untrained" eye. It appears to me that the grain is so ez to spot but you need to work a little harder to see DNR. Just a little grain sticks right out like a sore thumb to me instantaneously, but it takes a bit for me realize excessive DNR. Just my humble opinion. I don't want to get off topic but maybe the bits guys have some insight into this on-going dilemma...

If you don't find Patton to be excessive, on a film with very fine grain to begin with mind you, and on a 65" TV, then I don't think anything can be done to help you. DNR is often used on films WITHOUT excessive grain, just to get rid of it entirely

The difference is striking

13 feet away is a bit far from a 65" to get full 1080p resolution.

Long time back I alluded that at least one of the digibooks would be reissued in a different form

Natural Born KillersC was one of those on the list. Just FYI

Hi Jeff. As LOST ends at the season six finale next year, is it somewhat safe to assume that Disney will release the Blu-ray promptly after the finale, ala 24 season seven this year?

I ask because I do not watch the aired episodes and wait (anxiously) for the Blu-ray release.

Thanks you.
