How is the US release of Liz and the Blue Bird?
I saw some previous posts mentioning it's the theatrical version and different from JP version. Does this mean it's worse? |

The US release is really good despite being on a BD-25 and thus having a bitrate of around 27Mbps. Professorwho made a user review about it. The theatrical master was also used on the french release, so I assume that's the master used internationally (french release is flawless by the way, bitrate of 35Mbps with peaks at 53Mbps and almost an hour worth of extras, it's one of my favorite movies so I highly recommended it, one of the best blu rays I own). |

Oh I thought they corrected the ONE big animation mistake in the entire movie lol. Well then even less of a reason to worry about the master used, most changes are barely noticable even when put side to side.

I have old Votoms release, and I have a problem with OAV, where was glitches during opening (with colors etc). It's known problem. Now I check ultimate release from Sentai, where video quality it's a lot better, and see the same problem with glitches during the same opening. Sentai, why? They got broken video and cannot cut proper opening from other OAV or what?

How is Viz's release of Megalobox? Any difference between the regular and limited edition?

Fine. Just don't go in with high expectations as it doesn't really look any better than it does on CR, mainly due to the inherent problems in the source (and I'm not just talking about being downscaled to 400p and upscaled again). It's encoded in the wrong colour space though, as per the norm for most of Viz's titles in the last five years.

A while ago I compared K Seven Stories to the Crunchyroll streams, and it's mind bogglingly bad with worse compression. From the disc setup, it looks like they've been using a different authoring house since Jojo GW Part 2, which is actually annoying since GW Part 2 was actually encoded in the correct colour space and RGB levels. I emailed Viz, in the nicest possible way, to let them know how awful the K and Osomatsu discs are (and why), and after ~a month I received a response from them a week or two ago to confirm they've sent it to the respective team to investigate. Hopefully this results in a fix, or at least a backtrack on authoring houses, as last time I emailed in we got the aforementioned correct Jojo BD. Last edited by Mangaranga; 06-01-2021 at 06:23 PM. |

Haven't they been using Subatomic Digital for a long time though? They've been using them since at least 2006 as they're credited on the back of the Bleach DVD singles and box sets (which re-used the singles discs up until season 6 where there was a little overlap with Volume 32). Note that VIZ used multiple different companies for their DVDs back then, not just Subatomic Digital.

Gundam SEED HD Remaster corrected BDs seem to be encoded with wrong RGB levels (SDBD is fine). I'll post screenshots and bitrate info tomorrow.

It's an issue that can be mitigated by setting the RGB level to Full. It's imo not a deal-breaker unlike the broadcast version which they have fortunately not used this time BD ![]() Crunchyroll ![]() BD ![]() Crunchyroll ![]() |
