Rich,

There are other copies of both the regular release and the single and 2 disk promotional copies still listed on eBay (at least as of last evening). Do a search if you want another copy.

On Friday I received two sets of records. The first was a single from Ebay, San Damiano by Sal Solo. The second was from Acoustic Sounds. I've abstained from these guys for a while (due to limited funds), but most of the following were on their "Limited Stock" list, so I had to move fast:

* Gary Karr: Adagio D'Abinoni (Cisco)
* Handel: Water Music and Royal Fireworks (Cisco)
* Vince Guaraldi Trio
* OST: The Italian Job (the original with Michael Caine)
* OST: Silent Running
* Prokofiev: Lt Kije (the ultimate in audiophile porn: FOUR single-sided 45 RPM 200g records! )
* Bill Henderson: Send in the Clowns (33 RPM on one side, 45 RPM on the other)

The boss has put her foot down: no more records. :-(

I absolutely adore Handel: Water Music, but tell me Rich...how much did that Prokofiev vinyl porn set you back for?

The Milan Records release came out last year, I believe. I picked it up at one of my favorite St. Louis record stores: Euclid Records.

Nice...I've been eyeing that for awhile, but have held off due to the price tag. I just need to suck it up and buy it. I really dig Sigur Ros.

Surprisingly little: the regular 200g 33 RPM record is $33; Acoustic Sounds charges only $50 for the four 45 RPM record set.

I've got my eye on the same type of edition of Scherezade by Rimsky-Korsakov, but it's somewhat rarer, so the price is shockingly higher: $250 IIRC. If I was still working, I'd for it: the 180g pressing I have of this record is great, so the single-sided 45 RPM edition must be something else!

Nice! I'm going to have to treat myself to one of these Hot Stampers you keep buying. Like I mentioned a few days ago, I hear a Supertramp "Crisis? What Crisis?" is in the works. That might just do it!

This one was a bit more money than I would have normally have wanted to pay for one of these Hot Stampers, but Tom Port (owner of Better Records) says this is a real demo disc copy for audio. Teaser and the Fire Cat is my favorite Cat Stevens LP and it was really well recorded. My 35 year old copy has reasonably good sound, but it is pretty shot at this point. I think I played it a lot with turntables 3 to 5 or so generations prior to my new one. Too bad those machines, tonearms, and cartridges were no where near the quality of what I have now or my previous Thorens set-up. The newer cartridges etc. would have treated the vinyl better. If they had been the record would have been in reasonable condition.

I know what you're saying....some of my vinyl collection has seen better days, but they still play well as I've taken care of them. Nothing nicer though than finding another copy, pressing, release, etc. of a favourite recording though, now is there? Enjoy my friend!

A good friend of mine has a pretty high end system, and he wanted me to hear the 45 rpm version of Giant Steps. This is an album I am very intimate with and know quite well. To say it blew my socks off is an understatement. My goodness, this is what it is all about. The lp just sounds gorgeous. I'm not one to use "audiophile" conjecture, but damn, all I can say is lush. I quickly went to the local record store and bought it, last copy too. Nice gatefold cover and everything.

Picked up a few other goodies while there also.

My new TT arrives next week from my dealer. It can't some soon enough.

Nothing revolutionary.

Pro-Ject RM-6.1 SB TT, PS Audio GCPH Phonostage and a Sumiko Blue Point Special Evo III cartridge. My budget was only $2500.

Still pretty sweet! Be sure to post some pics when it's set-up.

Yeah, i'll take some pictures of the entire system. It's been a busy few months for me. Still have old pictures in my gallery. When everything is done and arrives, hopefully within the next week as the tt is backordered, I will post new pics.

I would like to get one too, but the ones in my price range aren't really attractive - I can't spend more than $100 just to try one.

There's a Dire Straits Love Over Gold on there for $399!!!! I know, he's got a money back guarantee, but my wife would absolutely murder me if she knew I spent $399 on a record...regardless of artist, rarity, etc., unless it was something I could resell for twice as much.

That Peter Gabriel "So" for $49 is much closer to me giving it a shot, even if it is only one side that's "HOT", but the DSD Stereo release is pretty freaking amazing of that album, so again it's tough to pull the plug.

The Zeppelin and Beatles stuff I'd love to check out, but it's never cheap. Houses of the Holy for $499? Like, Zoinks yo!

Steve,

Just don't ask me the price of the Cat Stevens Teaser and the Firecat Hot Stamper LP. I can say that some of these expensive Hot Stamper recordings are stunning. But, I do not have an SACD or a DVD-A of the same recordings to compare. But, I would suspect that with the possible exceptions of surface noise and the dynamics that the Hot Stampers would sound better.

Rich
