A 4 film set is a little strange, but nevertheless, I do love a TWoK, TSfS and TVH trilogy viewing every now and again. Voyage Home is fantastic fun.

Why has this been announced now? This'll be good though, will a US or UK release date be announced soon?

And here I thought TMP was the least liked of the ST films.

I can't believe Paramount would simply release the theatrical version as part of a box set and undercut the interest in an eventual director's cut.
If it’s the theatrical = fine by me

Odd that it’s just the first four, as although Paramount have released 2-4 as a ‘Trilogy’ before it didn’t include TMP. But, in any case:

Well maybe it is but they did create a director's edition of the movie and there's been talk of putting the director's Edition on 4K disc since 2019 and supposedly covid slow down those plans. But if they're just going to dump the theatrical version into a box set then they are stringing along the team who are negotiating to upgrade the director's edition special effects for an eventual release.

The next question is did they actually restore these movies when nobody was looking? Will it contain the same window boxing over the opening credits of Star Trek 3? Will Star Trek 4 be a DNR mess? Because if they haven't fixed the issues with three and four and are not including the director's edition of Star Trek 1 then I'll be paying a lot of money to see Star Trek 2 on disc.

Seeing as they overlooked the Director’s Edition for an HD upgrade I can see why they’d bypass it on 4K as well. And despite what ‘trusted sources’ say I don’t think it was ever set it in stone, just rumour upon rumour.

Look at it like this: they NEED to do a new transfer of the film to do the DE anyway, right? So let’s have a beautiful new UHD of TMP to start off with and if the ‘negotiations’ ever come to fruition they’ll have that transfer as a base. Most of the expense will come from that initial remastering of the film.

They’ll be brand new transfers if they’re being released on 4K and they’re going to smash the Blu-rays to bits.

If this was one of those random Scandi retailers or one of them weird $100 dollar steelbook labels then I’d be much more wary, though Viking61’s instincts are usually impeccable on these matters. But as it’s fookin Amazon then they don’t often put a specific listing up without a verr gud reason.

Can’t wait for all the other sites to pick this up, we should play ‘secondhand news bingo’. Geekbag, Bill Hunt, roll up, roll up, all the fun of the fair
