I don't think the movies are epic enough. You don't get a sense of how much time is passing, or the great distances. It might be cliche, but I wouldn't mind a few montages while they were traveling. Maybe their appearances could have changed more, like hair and wardrobe.

Tom Bombadil is very much an enigma, even within Tolkien's lore. Jackson's decision to omit him as he didn't really relate to the story of the ring was definitely a good call.
