^^^ yes your right on the money! Sorry I didn't see the Q. by the OP about breaking it down.

It's the the display not warmed up yet, which takes a few seconds. It should not do it if you have been watching/using the display & turn it off then right back on, cause the "screen" is still warmed up. If the picture is blotchey when it's in use then you have a problem.

Nice of everyone to jump all over me, thanks...

You're our beloved Pioneer guru!

The long and short of it, is that it is in no way harmful, or a defect. It simply has to do with screen temperature. So, everyone now go back to gawking at your Pio's and loving them so tenderly.

Just for clarification, the splotchiness is visible no matter how long the TV is on, but ONLY when there is no input source, or during menu changes.

It is not visible during actual movie playing.

It should "clear" within a few seconds, but if the picture is fine your 111FD is fine. When your watching a movie with a black back ground do you see any of the blotchey-ness like you do when you have NO signal? If not your good to go.

It has to do with the temperature? this is the first im hearing about this. i thought it was just the way the screen was, and will go away after the phosphors age over 200 hours?

People on AVS have the same problem but i dont remember them saying anything about the tv's temperature.

I made a little illustration in paint of what I see on my Kuro. This is when the room is completely dark, the screen is all black and you get within 3 feet distance of it

I don't know what you would call it, but I get that "splash of pixels" on power up and it's gone within a few seconds. I've been led to believe that this is related to the aging of the phosphors and can take anywhere from 300-800 hours or so before you stop seeing it. I had the same scenario with my Panny 85U and I think it was gone by the time it had hit 1000 hours. I expect the same from my 111FD and think that this is a common scenario with plasmas.

This is also the reason why these TVs (like all plasmas) go from good to great PQ, when they are closer to 1000 hours. I've got about 450 hours on my 111FD and have seen the PQ improve noticeably since it was 200 hours old.

I also have/had a stuck red pixel (haven't looked for or seen it lately, because it would drive me crazy )...I firmly believe that if it hasn't disappeared yet, that it will by the time I reach 1000 hours or so, for the same reason...aging of the phosphors.

That's why I tell people that "stuck" is better than "dead". Stuck will evetually go away...dead is dead (got a dead one on my Panny).

Exactly. It's hard to tell just what's wrong over the internet, but I've had lots of plasmas & have a pretty good idea about most questions asked.

People get very uncertain about things that are new to them, & rightfully so. It's hard to reassure someone who is so dead set there is a problem.
