I had brought it to UB820/UB9000 owners attention 2 weeks ago, UB150/UB450 players received an update on the 19th of May, so what is the hold up for their more premium players almost 5 weeks later & still no firmware in sight

This freeze only occurs in Dolby Vision, but happens every time at that spot.
What part? I get freezing as
[Show spoiler]Chris Evans grabs the knife and goes to stab Ana de Armas. It sucks because it falters as he's falling onto her, completely taking me out of the moment entirely.
I was going to buy another disc to see if that fixes it. But that freeze happened on my previous LG 4K player and now the 820 in the exact same spot.

The x50 series uses MediaTek silicon I think while the 420/820/9000 uses the same in-house chip, it’s almost criminal that playback problems have been accumulating across several discs while we're coming up on TWO YEARS without a firmware update for Western models. I know, I know, the pandemic happened, but it hasn’t stopped Pannysonic from releasing lots of new TVs every year or even swapping out the DAC in the 9000 player.

On the subject of spinning specific movies, I was disappointed to see that Tenet has the glitching/freezing problems (chapter 5 & 6) on the new 420, was hoping that was isolated to my Philips player...weird, still a prob...yet it plays flawlessly on my Sony unit, go figure.

It also hasn't stopped any other device I own from receiving firmware updates.

One year without an update to resolve known issues, maybe it's not a priority. Two years... they just don't care.

I'm hoping the refreshed 9000 with its 1.68 update will prove me wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.

When and why did they swap out the DAC?

It really wouldn’t surprise me if that firmware was just to update it for the new DAC and nothing else.

Where did I read the factory that manufactured the original DAC burned to the ground and so they had a new DAC designed and made that has better specs?

Did you try cleaning the disc? I don't believe this happens on the 820 so I would think the 420 would be the same.

I keep checking panasonic online to see if I can find it. Can only still get 1.66 - no region has posted a manual download for this yet!

Thanks. Tried. Doesn't help, although I kinda had a doubt it would, the disc is pristine, bought new and only watched it twice, handled with care, etc. The trouble areas run smooth as silk with my sony player but a trainwreck with my other two (my new Panny 420 and dated Philips first gen 4k).

It's no biggie though, not expecting I'll watch this one again, just can't jive with it newayz lol...but I do admit being bummed it snagged on the new (to me) player, fingers crossed that's a RARE issue (pretty sure it is - since fully going 4k and probably owning 200 titles now, this is only the second disc I've had trouble with, the other was Alien Covent).

I do love the 420 tho and moved it to the fam room rig now as the premier player in the house.

The only upgrade is a new 2-channel DAC from ESS as the factory AKM that made the original DAC was destroyed in a fire. The signal to noise specs are slightly better on the new ESS DAC, but from my limited testing I did not hear any easily noticeable difference with the few CDs I played.

Thank you Panasonic!
But does it have the option to turn off the ridiculous auto power off after 20 minutes on pause?

Technically it's a new model since it has a different model number on the box. I know it's a UB9000 and pretty much the same player except for those differences you mentioned. Thanks.

I checked and there’s no problem with Tenet on the 820 in hdr10. This is with the US disc though. Do you have a disc from a different region perhaps?

Tenet a problem disk? Hmm didn't realize that. I've seen it twice on my 9000 no issues.

Yeah it's not. Unless he has a different region disc, I think it's more likely he got an unlucky disc.

I am looking to buy a second UHD player on top of my UB820. Wondering if the UB450 is as good as the 820 or should I buy another 820?

Thanks for the reply...yes, US disc, purchased new, handled with care, etc, yet problems in the same spots each time I've run it...but on two particular players, not every unit in the house, weird.

FWIW, I do remember reading quite a few posts (in the Tenet specific thread) about the same issues I'm reporting but really, it's no biggie now as I'm gonna pass the disc along to a buddy anyway.

EDIT: Taken from the Tenet thread using the first of several search results for "freezing"...just sayin, it ain't only me...

While I didn't have the issue with Tenet (watched it twice), I believe you since this player is known to have freezing issues on various movies. It's not the disc.. For me it's been Midway, Lone Survivor, and Knives Out.
