Behaviour Interactive are continuing on with Dead by Daylight into the next generation of consoles. The developer announced today that their hit assymetrical multiplayer game will be headed to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X this holiday season with a massive graphical overhaul, including the game running at 4K/60 FPS.

Every six weeks the development team will roll out a new update to improve visuals. This includes everything from the lighting to the textures and character models, which will all be free for players. Not bad for a game which has now surpassed 30 million players.

"The ultimate goal is to improve the immersion tenfold, making the environments as realistic as a scary, disturbing nightmare,” explains the team. “The lighting and VFX will be vastly upgraded, as well as the modeling, textures and animations. More props will be added to the maps, and proper functions will be given to rooms to make them more identifiable.” •••

Interesting update. The odd thing is, the PS4 version already looked good.

I haven't played the PS4 version in ages but are they saying it's a free upgrade for existing owners to PS5 or that if you buy a PS5 version, you will get "Free Updates" which is basically a patch by the sound of things.

To me, i feel like they are trying to port this and keep making money via MTX etc. but they didn't have that much time to properly make the next gen version and they want to piecemeal the entire release of upgrades a bit at a time and make gamers feel like they've got something for free which the devs should have done in a proper full development before release.

Plus I wonder if the original PS4 version can be kept if transferred to the PS5, if one preferred the look of the original game to this upgrade. Or because it's a multiplayer online game, they'll no doubt force the upgraded, changed graphics as part of the experience, much like Warcraft, or Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2.
Not really a complaint, but an observation. If they add more free levels and content, then that's usually a good thing.

I have played DbD since day 1 on PC. I am actually looking forward to playing on my PS5. I played a bit on my PS4 pro and it was almost good enough. 4k60FPS will make PS5 my go to platform. Time to grind again.

Just started playing this, such a fun game. It really does give you the feeling you are in a horror movie. the community seems pretty strong. have not had problems finding a match so many years after it launched
