That’s been released on several occasions.

At this point I'm really not bothered about the extras. I've seen/heard all I need to. Just get the film right. Original mono, consistant aspect ratio, proper colours. That's all I asks.

Growing up in the 80's, the TV cut was the version I would watch when it was televised each year. It holds a special place in my heart. Will I watch it again? Difficult to say. I would like to own it.

There’s two I can remember off the top of my head:

—During the scene of Laurie and Annie’s drive, they’re smoking a cigarette instead of a joint.
—Then when the cabinet door opens to show Lynda’s body to Laurie, an alternate take is used that conceals PJ Soles’ nudity.

There’s also a different take used when Laurie tells the kids to go down the street and have the Mackenzies call the police. This different take was also used in the beginning of Halloween II.

Maybe we'll get the first 3 in a 4K UHD boxset from Scream Factory. That would be great.

I’m talking about the extended version that includes the added TV cut scenes. This version was included on the bonus disc in the boxset but it doesn’t have the original mono.

I will happily quadruple dip if the original mono is included. I don’t have a 4K player yet, but the lack of that track was always my biggest hangup of picking up the Lionsgate UHD to future proof myself. I would also triple dip on any of the sequels if they have new transfers because if there’s any issue with the boxset is that that it recycled old transfers for everything except the producer’s cut of H6 (plus the OG film having the then-new 2013 master).

If they do include the extended cut, hopefully the inserts are at least in HD and the “May 1965” title card restored before the first TV scene.

Also, I don’t think Scream licensed this from Lionsgate. They probably went through Compass International/Trancas, who actually owns the film.

I love buying the same movie over and over for less gain each time. I just bought their remastered Halloween II and III steelbooks not long ago. We should get discount coupons these days for double-dipping from the same studios

What would Halloween be without tits?

But yeah no, haven’t felt the need to watch that version since the DVD. Loomis’ cut scene is the only worthwhile bit, and it’s redundant.

They said in 2014 that the original elements for the footage was lost.

How exactly would a 4K UHD be “less gain” than a Blu-Ray?

I grew up with the TV cut of Halloween II. So for nostalgic reasons I absolutely love watching the TV cut on occasion. Plus I think there are a couple good scenes that should not have been removed, like the alternate ending, and the explanation of why the power is out at the hospital.

I think the TV cut of the first film has less changes of note than Halloween II. I'd probably not bother watching the TV cut of Halloween.

I said "less gain each time", because any UHD of Halloween II and III will very likely use their recent 4k masters which they already used for their recent steelbooks. So going from their 4k-mastred steelbooks to UHD will not be a particularly major improvement. That's my point - when I already own the 4k mastered blu-rays of some of these titles, the UHD is far less tempting than if I only owned an inferior blu-ray release. It's technically better so I am tempted, but it will be a small upgrade and likely not worth the extra money. These double-dips get expensive.

A UHD of Halloween II or III will be less of a gain over their recent steelbook blu-rays than it would be over older releases, because it uses the same 4k master.

So then don’t buy them?

Not everyone was able to get the limited steelbooks, so I would say it would be a major upgrade for many. Also, you don't have to get UHDs if you don't want to or are content with the steelbooks. Fortunately, some steelbook collector's will pay big bucks after the fact so you could always sell them when the UHDs come out.

I wasn't thinking about the possibility of selling those steelbooks. That's a good point. But usually I don't bother. I like the Halloween II and III steelbooks myself but maybe selling them would help justify the upgrades to UHD if it happens.

For those who don't have the steelbooks a UHD would be a huge upgrade.

Even if it supposedly has the mono track, I'm waiting for confirmation it's not some sneaky 5.1 fold-down.

Not that Shout would do such a thing...
