Good point, we will find out in a few weeks what SF has in store for October.

Come on, with delays and such, and backlogs in duplication houses, scheduling the Halloween films for September instead of October makes 1000% sense.

This way, people who preorder will hopefully get them before Halloween. Just imagine ALL the complaints if these had an October street date and there were delays of any sort, and they were late, shipping, whatever, and people didn't get them in time for Halloween. Fire and brimstone deluxe!!!! People would have their pitchforks out!!!

September was the only way to go. And I bet H5 will be amongst these titles, it just wasn't prematurely listed in time as the others were. Anything H6 and after is a whole other rights issue problem these days. I think it will be done at H5 this time.

They released the Friday the 13th set when COVID was causing more delays anything anything we have ever seen in the medium. If they could release that set during that hectic time, releasing something this October should be a cake walk.

If Shout couldn’t get the rights to 6-8, hopefully Paramount will release these films on UHD themselves in October to tie in for Halloween Kills theatrical release.

Ya, and I'm sure they were working on Ft13th well before Covid even started. That it came out on time is a miracle still, I give you that, but remember they still had 3 faulty discs on that release. And even moreso, Friday the 13th doesn't coincide with an actual holiday such as October 31 as a Halloween collection does. So even if Friday was late, people wouldn't be screaming, "you missed Halloween!!!" Also, these Halloween reissues appear to have been acquired and planned entirely during Covid times. Not the easiest period to get stuff together.

We'll see what happens. Personally, I don't care much. Just observing. Not a fan of the Halloween sequels much anyway, but I do have the big deluxe box-set just because. ;-P September or October, it's really just good that fans that want these, upgraded too, can get them again.

I still think H5 is as far as Scream can go this time. But they HAVE been known to work out miracles. This one will be tough, though.

I don't think releasing these in September has anything to do with people recieveing them in time for Halloween (the day), I think it's more for people to recieve it in time to watch before the new movie is released which is October 15th.

Also wanted to add that the 15 disc Halloween set came out in September in addition to the H2 and H3 initial releases. Based on the past release patterns it seems like SF picks September to release the Halloween films. Although the steelbooks appear to be an exception, they were released in October.

You're probably right, but just seems slightly odd to announce 1-4 or 1-5 for September.
Their September Announcements are almost always better/bigger than their October Announcements. The original Halloween Boxset also came out in September as well. It allows for folks to order them and have them in hand prior to Halloween so they can be watched as part of marathons. The typical complaint otherwise is that they release a title people want to watch too late into October and so people aren't able to watch it before Halloween as it arrives with 1 weekend to go or sometimes even less time than that.

Whatever they have planned for October, it's likely not going to compare well to the September slate if what we think we know is correct and I'm saying that as someone that isn't all that excited for a bunch of Halloween re-releases.

I'll definitely get Halloween 1-4 on 4k. If they announced 5-8 for October, that at least saves me a bunch of money. I'd only want H20. H5 is a clunker. H6 and Ressuection are embarrassing stains on the franchise. I still only have H20 on DVD because I refuse to also buy that triple pack with ressuection and H6. The standalone Blu for H20 goes for too much.

I agree with all of the above. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I watched it tonight and found it to be tonally schizo, and not in a good way, like so many horror movies that have dark comedy shot through them. That isn’t my only criticism, but I don’t want to be overly negative, so I’ll just echo what JupiterMission said and not recommend a blind buy of this one.

Speaking for myself, I don't ever plan on unloading mine. Even if all the remaining films in the set get UHD upgrades. It's still one of my favorite pieces in my collection (both Blu-Ray collection and autograph collection). What I plan on doing is just switching the existing cases out for 3 or 4 disc cases, and adding the UHD discs (along with any improved Blu-Rays) to the set.

That said, I do hope that all the films in the series get upgraded, to take the sting away for anyone that did miss out on the box set.

Now that Halloween 2 and 3 are likely coming (and The Thing is coming from Universal), I'd be down for UHD rereleases for the Psycho sequels, Cat People and Darkman (if we're just looking at Universal titles).

Remember it took them a long time to even consider picking up Psycho IV, so evidently they're not entirely convinced of the popularity of the Psycho franchise. Obviously it will depend on sales data, but I could see Psycho II getting the UHD treatment. 3 seems less likely, and I'd say there's virtually no chance of 4.
I always felt that had more to do with their opinion of the films, rather than the popularity of the series. I remember when they dismissed Psycho IV when people first asked about it, saying that there were better films that were more worth their time. And they subsequently got a lot of heat from fans about it (especially when they announced The Howling II not that long after), to the point that the title was included in a later Universal deal (along with the remake).

But I do absolutely agree that they're not just going to upgrade their entire catalog that's still in print to UHD. They're going to stick to the big sellers. Basically, any of the titles they rereleased as a steelbook (that they still have the rights to) are the ones that I think are most likely to be upgraded (with some exceptions, of course; I don't see Big Trouble In Little China or My Bloody Valentine getting that treatment, unfortunately).

Truthfully, I'll take all of them on UHD. Even the objectively bad ones, like Resurrection. I won't have any objections to switching out all the black Blu-Ray cases in my set to UHD cases. But I'm not going to get my hopes up, either. There's a reason the box set was considered a miracle in the first place.

No. Nothing has been confirmed yet, and truthfully, I think it's more likely that SF worked out a deal with Trancas (whom actually own Halloween 1, 4 and 5 outright) than with Lionsgate (whom historically don't license).

Honestly, that's what I'm thinking as well. I honestly don't see them going through the trouble of getting the rights to these films, for them to only license two out of the three. I know Halloween 5 isn't one of the more well-liked ones, but I'd think after the Psycho IV thing, that they wouldn't be so quick to dismiss a title with name value, especially since they've already got a number of extras ready to go for a release.

Nor do I think it would make sense to license all three of them, only to hold one of them back on the off-chance they can get another licensing deal to work with the owners of the remaining films. If that were the case, why not wait until they could just do a UHD upgrade of the box set?

Not me. I'm keeping my box set and will be passing on these new releases. I'm not one to buy the same titles multiple times. After upgrading from the original Blu-rays to the expansive box set, I'm satisfied.

Never unloading the 15-disc boxset. If anything else, it'll remain an expensive art piece, like my framed laserdiscs, and I'll put the new 4Ks that'll become the new go-to for watching lined up next to it. Theoretically, if Shout ever released all of them on 4K, with the same total number of cases, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for someone to just take the blu-ray cases from the box, swap them with the 4Ks, and pretend the boxset was a 4K one all along.

I'm certainly not faulting SF for releasing UHDs of the Halloween films. They're mega popular and a new film is coming. I won't begrudge anyone that buys or not buys them. I'm personally on the fence, well until reviews, but Halloween just doesn't scream upgrade me. I've bought these damn films 5x I think ahaha.

Although Scream factory continuing the UHD upgrades is a good thing.

I'm on the fence about what to do with my box set myself.

I probably may end up keeping it because it's a terrific set from 2 of the greatest companies specializing in classic independent film releases (and Anchor Bay's swan piece before going belly up) in addition of the cooperation of some major studios (and to convince Miramax to finally restore the H6 Producer's Cut is among the many great attributes this set has).

I do sometimes hate when a new release comes out that outranks the old release because I spend lots of money on the latter which could've gone for the former. Then again, the future is not ours to see and for this news to come out left field was completely unexpected so how could anyone know? But it's something like this that's also the reason why I haven't gotten Westworld, Futureworld, or the Poltergeist movies on Blu-ray yet because odds are there'll be new editions down the line (especially with Poltergeist turning 40 next year and Westworld turning 50 in 2023).

Regardless, I'm buying it the instant it's announced (wanna get the exclusive perks on the Shout! website if there's any)

Halloween for sure if you mean over all formats. I think I've seen more variants of F&F on DVD and Blu tho.
