While I will not defend Scream Factory on every issue (they did act foolishly by blaming Dawn of the Discs for the leak when it was clearly the retailer) I can certainly understand them being angry over the new artwork being trashed by a sizeable crowd. (I think if it were only a few it wouldn't matter.) If I really put a lot of effort into something (in this case, to commission new artwork) only to have a lot of people trash it ("looks like pure f$%#ing sh*&!" - said elsewhere), I'd be pissed too. It's almost like doing your best job performance at work and having your boss tell you that your work sucks. Assuming you're not a slacker and care about your job performance, how would that go over with most people?

More shite art: (Halloween II had a lot)

You’re only saying that because you like the artwork, Scoot79. It doesn’t matter that they spent money on it, or that someone spent time on their computer making the illustration. What matters is the end result… and this one is atrocious.

They’re adults, they know they’re not immune from criticism. They’re putting out merchandise that they hope to sell; it’s not like they’re sending us secret love letters and we’re betraying them by reading them in public and ridiculing them. Frankly I’m not sure how they’ve made it this long without getting the level of backlash they’re just now getting.

I still really want to hear some actual criticism about the artwork because I genuinely don't understand how it's being met with such hatred. I don't care if you think it looks "atrocious" or like an elementary school kid drew it - what specifically about it looks bad?

If anyone wants to picket about deleted scenes and new features, I'm there. It's decent enough art and it's clear effort was put into it, which hasn't always been the case with previous releases, but generally always with Scream. Having the option of the original poster art would be nice but it is bland in the sense that it's been done before and it doesn't need to be the standard. I'm assuming that what the majority of fans might prefer would seem limited in my eye. The Complete Collection was beautiful but also predictable in a way. The standard (at least it is now). My personal taste might conflict with the depiction of the H2 and H5 masks but it's all good.

Two of my own Halloween buddies love it, which kind of shocked me. But art is subjective, even if the majority here hate it.

for me personally, I don’t like the overabundance of leaves on all of the covers, how weirdly proportioned Michael looks to everything, and why they have certain aspects of each film on the covers (the bridge in Return, for example). I also think putting Michael front and centre on the original film goes against what John Carpenter was aiming to do with that film (where he’s referred to as The Shape and is always in the corners or shadows), and none of them really feel like they embody the film they represent outside of Season of the Witch. (Fittingly, that cover seems to be getting praise despite it essentially being the same style as the others, just without Michael).

If they keep those covers and they’re the slips, I’ll get over it because it’s what’s on the discs that matters at the end of the day. But with Prince of Darkness and They Live, Scream used the original theatrical artwork for both its (non-reversible) sleeve and the slipcover. I was hoping that decision would continue, particularly since - if they’re intending for these to finally be seen as the definitive versions of the first five films - the original artwork is an important aspect to the fans. It may just be slipcovers, but I was really wanting them to have the original artwork.

A big problem with the covers is.... Are there no other characters aside from Michael Myers? Laurie, Loomis, Jamie, Rachael, Tttina? It's all just "Michael pasted on background".

Even the Halloween 3 cover feels very tacked on and busy, but the "least bad" of the set.

Leaves, leaves everywhere. They're more important than any of the other non-Michael characters I guess.

And lastly, the art just isn't good, I know there is a small group here who seem to like them, but they're receiving a majority negative response, which shows they obviously aren't going over well. Art is subjective, so I'm not saying they shouldn't exist, but it definitely should have been the poster art as the main slip, with maybe these on the inner sleeve.

So, what cover do you want on these, because the original one sheet will probably be on the reverse?

I think with the Miramar movies, Shout could probably get Paramount to license them out for a regular Blu Ray, but not a 4k, Paramount hasn't licensed any of those out yet. I think at the least Paramount would put them out by next year to coincide with Halloween Ends. I'd love to upgrade my H20 DVD. Hell I'd take a regular Shout Blu Ray, I'd love to hear that commentary JLC did for it.

Hopefully this is used on the reverse for AITD. If not, who cares but the only point I was trying to make, was why bother wasting money on art for AITD when you have something like this available?

Put that money towards better online presence and announcements since that seems to be a massive concern for them?

And to answer your question, if you think the new art for AITD looks better than the poster below, we just have wildly different opinions on what looks good. That’s fine but we are best to just leave it at that.

Probably because Michael Myers is basically the star of the films, at least since about part 4. Granted, Dr. Loomis was as well, but now, especially since Pleasence's death, Myers = Halloween. It's the same with Freddy Krueger and the Nightmare on Elm Street films or Jason Voorhees and the Friday the 13th films.

They did go overboard with the leaves.

Most likely, that poster will be used on the reverse as it will be a Collector's Edition release. I'm not too fond of the new art for Alone in the Dark, but that original one sheet is awesome.

I agree. Again, just my opinion but if I was a general customer in the mood for a horror flick and I was browsing the racks or online, I don’t think the new art for AITD would be getting me very interested in the title. That original poster on the other hand, it would certainly be grabbing my attention.

If that poster is on the reverse then all good. Be a shame if art as good as that wasn’t utilised in one form or another on the release though.

I agree 100%, but I'm about to be 42 in a few weeks. I wonder if the younger crowd would agree with us or would they be drawn more to the new art, unfortunately?

Do you guys think the September announcements will be today? I am a bit concerned that with the negative reception on the Halloween UHD artwork SF might end up delaying the release to change them.

Word going around that the releases are now cancelled. Scream Factory producers are just going to keep the discs for themselves to enjoy.

It supposedly got messy. Insults and taunts were thrown around with things like ‘my Dad could beat up your Dad’ being said and it looks like these discs are now non goers.

I like the new art, but I’m not in love with it, and I’d take original artwork on each cover over ANY newly commissioned piece any day. I, too, thought the Carpenter 4Ks meant they’d be sticking to original artwork for their 4K slipcovers. So, it’s weird they’ve gone the commission route yet again with Halloween.

I’m not really sure why they insist on spending oodles of money on commissioning new pieces, when I do believe most people who buy these things would just love the theatrical artwork printed front and center on a nice slipcover. I mean, look at Imprint’s release of The Dead Zone compared to SF’s. Imprint’s release utilizes two original art works for the film, and is absolutely stunning.

I would like to think I gave you a decent enough explanation above.

Free tip. If you are looking to engage in a respectful conversation with people, responding along the lines of ‘I don’t care that you think it’s atrocious’ is not a good starting point
