Not to mention you won’t have much time to watch your blu-ray collection if you have kids.

Kind of off topic but speaking of cool extras...the Netflix series THE MOVIES THAT MADE US...next season and season 4 has Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and Halloween on it.

Not to criticize Scream or anything, but is having an "Original Color Timing" presentation redundant if it means the first Blu-ray disc will have an improved 4K transfer by Dean Cundey? :/ If anything, the layout should've been this for the Blu-rays: Disc 1: The Film (Theatrical Version) -Audio Commentary with John Carpenter, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Debra Hill -Audio Commentary with John Carpenter and Jamie Lee Curtis -Audio Commentary with Dean Cundey, Tommy Lee Wallace, and Nick Castle -The Night SHE Came Home -TV Version Footage -Theatrical Trailers, TV Spots, and Radio Spots -Photo and Still Galleries Disc 2: The Film (Extended TV Cut) -Interview with Moustapha Akkad -Halloween: A Cut Above The Rest -Halloween Unmasked 2000 -On Location: 25 Years Later -Horror's Hallowed Grounds: Halloween Plus any (new) extras they plan to add. |

Cundey is an excellent cinematographer (that Carpenter claimed he could no longer afford to use on his films long ago) - i didn't really hear what Cundey is referring to exactly. Film doesn't always behave in a way where all the colors you expect in your brain (if you are the director or DP) will turn up that way or even get timed to look that way. With the first Halloween, I like the contrast with the blues. I would have assumed that that is on purpose (again, not sure what he is talking about exactly). One film that likely originally turned out too warm was the original Evil Dead. I don't think that was on purpose. The lights they sometimes used (even though they were white) makes it look like they used the finer grain 16mm film that is balanced for daylight throughout the movie, so any indoor stuff would be too warm. I have run across that situation myself. They fixed it for one of the DVD releases, and having seen it theatrically a few times, I preferred the fixed version that was less warm. Some people did not like that as it differed from all previous releases, so they warmed it up again. That was clearly a limitation of the film though. If they could have had daylight balanced lighting inside (not cheap or easy at the time they made the movie), it would have had a cooler look with more vivid colors. |
