Terrible... I mean, Halloween is an atmospheric horror film.... This artwork does not represent that at all. It makes it look like a D grade slasher.

This goes for all of these films. There is little here that appears to be an upgrade for me when I weigh all the factors.

Cool. Thanks. Yeah I think I'm going to do the same and sit on the sidelines. Maybe get II and III, I have the SF versions of both (non steelbook versions) so it will likely be an upgrade there. If it with original mono audio as well than likely worth picking up at some point.

The art looks like some garbage IDW comic book adaptation of the movies, could get better stuff from DeviantArt

If the pricing is consistent with the 4Ks for Prince of Darkness and They Live those came down to like $27 when I had them pre-ordered from Amazon, could have been a few dollars cheaper I can't really remember. I'm straight up wincing at $38 each.

This is true of all new artwork Scream Factory uses. Same goes for Arrow Video. They’re targeting the type of people who go to ComicCon and have rooms full of figurines and knickknacks. I guess because those people are more likely to buy any corny tie-in merchandise or home video re-release as long as it’s presented with a comic book or video game aesthetic.

It’s interesting (and often stomach-churning) to see which films get this treatment from SF and which ones don’t.

The art in comics in general has been god awful for ages, just sucks I have to stare at it on movie covers now.

Well…a fool and his money are soon parted…

I ordered the 1-5 set with the vinyl. At least I was frugal enough to decide the pin set wasn’t worth an extra $55….

Lionsgate did a new 4K HDR master from the OCN (and an IP for things like text screen/credits and some effects shots) in 2016 for use on their UHD. Shout did a brand new 4k HDR from the OCN (direct without any IP inserts, may have rebuilt credits and on screen texts) with color timing halfway between matching that of the IP and being more balanced.

I think Cundey supervises every time and they always look different, so I would trust Joe Schmoe who has seen a beat up print or a guy referencing a VHS tape over him, to be honest.

Maybe a stupid question but does anyone know how to cancel a preorder on Diabolik? I might cancel my order for Halloween and place another order for Halloween and H2, to save on shipping as opposed to buying them separately.

So this has been remastered three times in the space of a decade? Bruh.

I saw it, 15 years ago; I was told there was nothing left; no original mono, no original color timing, no understanding in even the most rudimentary sense of theatrical presentation. I saw this... 28 year old film with this blank, pale, emotionless grade, and... the most revisionist audio - the Devil's audio. I spent eight years trying restore it, and then another seven trying to milk it with as many releases as possible, because I realized that what was living behind that film was purely and simply... profit.

The case insert is double sided with the original poster on reverse. Do what I'm doing and toss/sell/trade the slip, flip the art, now it's lovely!

New master + original mono is the big draw here. IDK if those things are to your preference though.

I bought it six times! I bought it six times! I bought it in every new format! I bought it six times! This restoration, this movie, it's not accurate!

I don’t know where I read that the Lionsgate UHD used an IP (Twitter?), but it didn’t sound right. Anyway, good to know. What does the process of rebuilding the credits (yikes) look like?

Been thinking about my feelings on the Halloween franchise compared to the Friday the 13th films.

With Halloween, even though the original is one of my favorite films and there have been some damn good sequels, I'm indifferent about several installments and flat out dislike several more, which is why I never picked up the complete Shout! set for the whole series.

With Friday, I have no special fondness for any one installment but I still enjoy most of them, and unlike Halloween, I think they actually got better as they went for a while, peaking with parts 4-7. So I am probably going to end up getting that franchise's big Shout! set while it's still in print, even though I didn't grab it last year.

Funny how that works out.

There is still a lot of improvement to made.

On H1 there is the muted color problem, (Grey-ish daytime, blue lacking at night) the aspect ratio switching problem and of course missing Mono. Not saying I want a return to the 2007 blu-ray colors either. Those are too intense and warm.

On 2 I'm hoping for an original negative scan which it looks like we really didn't get last time. There was an increase in the tonal color space, (noticeable in fire, flashlights etc.), reduced compression and a lack of over sharpening from the last transfer. But we also might have gotten a small decrease in detail. Certainly not a level of detail I would expect from Eastman 35mm.

On 3 not sure what to expect since I believe they used a new 4K scan last time. So maybe this one will have the smallest jump in quality.

On 4 and 5 we should see massive improvements.
