I'm almost positive the Skynet Edition captures from the review on this site were done incorrectly, that's why it looks washed out. They don't match what other people have been reporting at all; i.e., stronger contrast, deeper blacks, etc.

the captures from this site are correct there isn't really a way you can get it wrong. It looks washed out because the DNR'd the hell out of it and artificially boosted it's contrast. Infact the contrast might not be what Cameron intended.

I'll probably have to pass on this after all, at least for a little while. I just ordered Blade Runner Ultimate Collector's Edition, which is hard to find so that set me back a little. I also want to pick up Valkyrie and Enemy At The Gates on the 19th, so the T2 set will have to wait. Just too many good Blus coming out lately...

I've read that the Japanese and UK versions are basically the same in terms of picture quality.

I have the UK version and it looks good to me.

I really want this set but considering there has been like six releases of T2 on DVD and were now on our 2nd with Blu-ray I find it hard to justify spending $100 to $130 on a collectors set that could be re-released with a better transfer in a ultra super duper supreme everything but the kitchen sink Skynet edition in another year.

Bill's column has some information on the new Skynet Edition over at the Digital Bits...

Quote:
At the risk of becoming the grain reduction police, I happened to look at Lionsgate's new Terminator 2: Skynet Edition Blu-ray Disc release last night. The disc itself has a lot of cool interactive features, in addition to containing all three versions of the film. But those of you who already have the older Blu-ray release would do well not to get rid of it - the new 1080p video presentation is much softer looking than the original... and yes, film grain (and fine image detail) appears to have been digitally scrubbed from the image. I definitely prefer the original Blu-ray image. These are simply the perils of life in the new high-definition age it seems.
Ouch...

I think I am going to cancel my order from Amazon, since Lionsgate basically downgraded the image quality, which is such a shame.

I think I'm going to pass on this release. I have the first Blu-Ray release. And I also have The French import HD DVD release that I bought from Xploited a couple years ago.
Yeah I thought about buying T2 for the 3rd time on HD but after reading about this DNR issue I'll take a pass on this release.

I'm canceling (if I can) my pre-order from columbiahouse. I even sold my other copy of T2 waiting for this release. Oh well, I have it on dvd and maybe there'll be another release of T2 anyway. I'll probably wait a while and figure out for sure which version is better and get that one.

Was looking to find 'My Bloody Valentine' or 'Mall Cop' up early, but this was still a good find... BTW, I'm watching it now and IMO I have no problem with the P/Q.. My standards might not be as high as some, But *I* think it looks very good...
