Any insiders have a response to this post in the AVS Insider's thread?

From what I have been told, this isn't the case. In order to increase the yields on the discs, they are having to limit the data on the discs to under 45 GB because if they go over the 45 GB yields drop to very low levels. Even by doing this, their yield rates are much lower than HD DVD's. I am awaiting the delivery of a BD-ROM player for my PC to verify this myself.

In the non-Sony manufacturing plants that have attempted to make BD50's, their yields are around 10%, so essentially these lines are useless at this point and we are back to only two semi-viable production lines for BD50's. That means there are only two lines to produce discs for Sony, Disney, MGM, FOX, & Lions Gate. I think this was one of the many reasons that Paramount/Dreamworks made the decision that they did.

You know that is very refreshing to hear…… because on some forums you have a studio pseudo-insider like the A-man unequivocally stating that SPE did all the encodes for the Paramount titles in the past (wrong !) and from what I’ve been told in P.M’s you now most recently have a new *registered insider* that apparently knows the whys, wherefores, etc. of the recent Paramount deci$ion at the highest levels.

Heck, some of our non-insiders here are better informed than other forums’ *registered insiders*. People like Maxpower put them to shame and our news editor/movie reviewer Josh trumps the whole dang world with breaking the Stephen N. news before any other news outlet/movie reviewer type in the world. (and no, he didn’t get it from me, he got it from an independent source of his own).

Thanks for the tidbits from everyone. The picture is starting to get a little more clearly. Unfortunately, it seems that Paramount's blu-ray customer base is being used as pawns in inter-studio politics.

This seems to be one of the FUD points from HD DVD (e.g. cited as a factor in Paramounts decision) and I'm wondering what the reality is.

I would also be interested in our Insiders' opinion about this. It would seem to me that this is a MUCH more important question long-term than all the silliness about Profiles that no one will talk about in a year or two. I assume we all hope that in a few years in a month like this November, millions & millions of Spiderman 3 & Ratatouille BD50s would have to be pressed.

Maybe Paidgeek can look at this from an engineering p.o.v. & Penton can chime in if this is at all a concern/talking point on the strategic studio level. Thanks!
