I only upgraded my DVD fairly recently (couldn't let go of that beautiful Vista Series packaging) and was genuinely aghast at the PQ of the Blu-ray. How did that disc get through their QC Anyway, Unbreakable is the only film in the "Eastrail" trilogy I'm interested in so I'm thrilled it's getting a makeover for UHD.

I really want to believe Disney has backtracked on their No Physical Media stance but deep down I know they haven't

The Blu is 13 years old, many a piece of chit transfer got a pass at the time because some people didn’t know any different. Look at the marks given to the Scream set which is genuinely one of the worst “HD” transfers I’ve ever seen.

And, naturally, the Mouse is going to push out all the ready-make 4K remasters onto disc first before they pony up anymore cash to commission anymore 4K remasters of other films. For such a studio with all da money they can possibly dream of, they must have Ebenezer Scrooge (pre-enlightenment) at the wheel

Speed and Heat were already ready from Fox, but Unbreakable will be the first catalogue title they are releasing which isn't part of their current "brand" (Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, Disney animation & the live action remakes). Well, there was the Prestige but that was part of the Nolan set.

Wonder what will influence what we get on 4K UHD.
These titles you listed above are being done because they're already restored and sitting in the Disney and Fox vaults. Since Dinsey took over Fox, the only restorations that were done were Roger Rabbit and most recdently, Home Alone 2 (which is now on Disney+).

Speed, Heat, Unbreakable, and other titles like The Omen, Butch Cassidy, Patton, etc are all alredy completed, approved and just sitting in the vaults.

"Etc."? :-)

Great to hear that we might get a 4K of The Omen. Very much hope sales of these catalogue titles encourage Disney/Fox to do more.

Disney also presumably controls The Happening now, since it was a Fox title.

Even if this is only coming out because it was already completed I would still think it's a good sign. If Home Alone, Hocus Pocus and Speed had all not hit sales targets why would Disney bother? Just having the discs replicated costs money so obviously Disney feels they will sell enough copies to be profitable.

Disnee have long been cool on catalogue physical media, that much cannot be denied. But just as Paramunt have discovered that there’s life in the old dog yet - embracing catalogue stuff like there’s no tomorrow, if still a bit circumspect when it comes to UHD - Disnee have come to a similar conclusion. They went bananas with their recent animated catalogue a couple of years ago but live action UHD stuff older than five minutes and wasn’t mega franchise related seemed off limits. But who knew that if you put stuff out that people want, they buy it? And yeah, they must be making enough from these to not just cover their costs.

The steelbook front looks bit of a mess. I see what they're going for, but it could've been done better. The rest looks really cool though, a better steelbook than the Speed and Home Alone ones.

Glad to see it's really happening. Might go for the steelbook, but then again I don't have Split or Glass in steelbook!

Amusingly, Unbreakable: Vista Series (for $18.99 at Sam's Club) was the first ever DVD I purchased and it led me on a course which would change me forever....

I prefer the SteelBook art and since Best Buy is my retailer of choice, I will go for that one, especially with the format logo on the spine. I dislike Disney's banners on their standard versions.

Not a high bar to clear, but they've managed it, just.

Steelbook looks nice. Standard is no slouch either. Can't be too much mad at it cause the BD artwork wasn't great looking either even though it was just the theatrical poster.

Can't Wait for this.
