His name is Nero (Erica Bana) and he is a Romulan, Captain of the Narada ship.

A bit more detail about Nero at your own risk...

[Show spoiler]He is a Romulan from the 24th Century (Next Generation era) who is seeking revenge against Ambassador Spock. His ship travels back through time to the 23rd Century (Original Series era) where his actions disrupt the timeline as it was meant to transpire, and he comes across the Enterprise of the time Captained by Christopher Pike and cadet James T. Kirk on board etc

Hmmm, sounds somewhat interesting........I've just never been one for Sci-Fi which is probably why I have never seen a single episode or movie of Trek before.

Well this Star Trek is pretty much an action movie unlike previous movies.

Hmmm guess I will have to flip a coin lol. I think I've only been to the theater twice this year so far that I can recall, for The Wrestler and Wolverine......

You'll really enjoy the film imo, it's a rollercoaster ride! I could tell you more (especially the knockout moments) but I don't want to ruin it for you.

With this film, it doesn't matter that you haven't seen Trek before. It's very much a starting point. But I'd recommend Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan afterwards

I thought it was an origins, but as I'd said never seeing anything Trek related I wasn't sure if this was a film just for the fans loaded with only jokes and references that fans would get. So if it's one of those let's start from the beginning and you don't need to know anything going in, than I am much more likely to see it. thanks.

i think it would be a mistake for then to put shatner in it. if they do they are just pandering to the fans. i like shatner but he is not the same, he is a bit overweight and getting on in years. to say now the timeline is changed and kirk didn't die the way he did or this and that is a bit of a stretch. if you say that will whos to say that spock didn't die at some point before he went back in time or now the klingons defeated the federation at some point. how would it happen that everything is the same but somehow this one event has changed? it would take a whole other movie to explain the fact that now kirk didn't die in the generations movie. it would be too complex and confusing. but i suppose that if any one can do it, maybe jj abrams can but i think it would be a mistake.

I just saw an interview with the writers where they said that now that they have this new timeline, they don't have to bring back anymore of the original series people. Which I think is best. Leave well enough alone. Go in a new direction.

Default Khan

A way to have Khan in the sequel is to re-do the space seed episode, where the Enterprise encounters a ship full of engineered humans led by Khan and they attempt to take control of enterprise.

Using ambasidor spock they could have personal video logs with him and shatner

but that'd be a cruch and the new timeline should proceed unabated.

Nero messed with the klingons in this movie so they should be really mad but not

quite the klingons of shatners timeline. Andorians, cardasians so many places to

chart anew.

R.I.P old timeline they rebooted for a reason it worked so let them continue

the new story without the baggage of the past.

finally got to see this last night, and i loved it, was a little disappointed in some things but i think i went in to hyped and with high expectations but overall really enjoyed it, i hope we do get to see more of this series of movies, and i also agree that they should not redo the stories of the previous movies, and it would also be weird to bring back any other old crew under the "time travel" plot.

I hope this just served as a jumping off point and look forward to seeing where they take it, and i am really happy to have my trek back and back with a breath of fresh air.

oh and they theatre i saw this in SUCKED, have not seen a movie in a theatre since i bought into blu and i think the experience is ruined for me a giant screen isn't enough to justify the expense, crappy picture, crappy sound, and annoying people in the theatre, although the people that gave a standing ovation for this movie had me laughing mao.
