Makes me wonder just who the eff is actually releasing them Basterds on UHD, though I’m assuming that deal relates to US distribution only.

Still, Lionsgate love a bit of UHD so hopefully this bodes well for UHDs of the other Tarantino flicks in that deal, as well as other TWC joints.

I think Universal has short-term distribution rights, but it's owned by Weinstein and will eventually revert back to them (or whoever buy it from them).

Basterds always was Universal in the US as well and I think the Weinstein thingy is completely unrelated (in regard to Basterds and opposed to Django for ex). I never expected anything but Universal.

As noted several times, this is coming because it’s not had the rights ping-pong all over the place and has been with Universal, a very UHD-friendly studio, since the get go (although Uni may well be set to lose it which is why they’re doing this now).

Is there a reason why such a big director, as Tarantino is, doesn't have "One" Studio?

How many “big name” directors kept exclusively to one studio? Not many is the answer. QT had a strong connection with the Weinsteins, yes, but the trouble is twofold: Miramax were not a distributor so they were always shopping their wares around to whoever would pay the most, and the Weinsteins were then ousted from Miramax anyway and set up another one (The Weinstein Company) which would then have its own distribution deals. It’s a bit of a mess, though if memory serves Paramount now have the Miramax library and Lionsgate recently closed a deal for the North American rights to the TWC library.

Honestly don’t know. If it’s still with Sony I’m surprised we didn’t get a cash-in release to go with OUATIH, but Tarantino said something about completing a Director’s Cut of Django.

Hyped for this. After Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Inglourious Basterds all I need from Tarantino on UHD is Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown and I'm all good.

Miramax was a distributor, and Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, and Kill Bill were all released when Miramax was a Disney subsidiary.
