For any insider:

I am having a bit of a debate with someone concerning the passing of audio codecs (TrueHD, DTS-HD & MA, etc.) bitstream.
He claims that none of the BD disks released so far will be able to pass these codecs bitstream (due to some kind of DRM or something) to the new receivers and pre/pros (for example, the new Onkyo/Integra line).
Current disk releases can only be decoded by current and future players internally; while external decoding is only possible with future releases.
What is the truth on this stuff?

To update my BD Live question, it seems HD DVD has a similar way of doing what I suggested, except the database updates are on newer discs from the same studio rather than being downloaded. Is BD Live going to have that kind of ability to update already released discs with new content? I can see it being very useful in fixing errors that weren't caught in QC for instance.

Paidgeek,

Can you provide some insight on how the "consideration" regarding Seinfeld on BD is going?

To any BD insider who can give me an answer (preferably with some kind of back up doc): One poster on AVS seems to be making a carreer out of defining what the various profiles of BD's availability might be. He's convinced the Sigma 8634 rev C is the only SoC solution for profile 1.1. From reading the pdf on Broadcom 7440 it appears that it is also compliant (they state that it will do profile's 1.0 and 2.0). I thought that any player cabable of 2.0 would also do 1.1; is this not correct? Also, can anyone enlighten me as to whether Broadcom 7440 is in fact "luma-key capable"?

Is there a chance that the Sammy BD players just announced (1400 and 2400) might be either 1.1 capable (with no annoucnement yet) or perhaps upgradable to 1.1 at a later date?

The only player announcement I've seen wrt advanced profiles is todays from Daewoo, with no release date. Why no announcements or discussion of profiles from manufacturers? Is this just to prevent impacting existing unit sales, or should we be worried that their is trouble getting this to work?

I thought after it was discovered that profile 1.1 did not mandate HD PiP that this profile would be fairly easy to do; after all it's basically the same functionality that HD DVD has been using all along, right?

As far as the specs go; is it possible to be 2.0 compliant without being 1.1 compliant?

There are three SoC solutions for BD players (one which does not support HD DVD), all which support Profile 1.1 designs. Not all BD players for 2007 have been announced...

Thanks Keith. Is it true that profile 2.0 compliance also indicates 1.1 compliance, or are they separate feature sets?

2.0 is higher than 1.1, so it would have MORE features

I agree that makes sense. Unfortunately I'm a having some difficulty proving it to one of the more stubborn supporters of the rival format. Is there something that I can link to which provides definitions of the two profiles?

Is Sigma ramping production on the rev C. Media Processor?

You guys seem to be the place to go if you need to build a Blu-ray player, having won designs for 6 Blu-ray players that I know of.
Congratulations on a great Quater, revenues up 18% and up 111% from the same period last year.

Can any insider say if Sony BDP-S500 has profile 1.0, 1.1 or 2.0 and if it will support DTS-HD Master Audio?

Paidgeek,

There is a person parading as an insider on another website making claims about Blu-ray subsidization and yields. Considering he's speaking from a supposed position of authority on the internal workings of the BDA and the comments he's making are meant to hurt the BDA, is there any chance that the BDA could take action against him or at least issue a public statement detailing his complete lack of any insider access to the BDA?

I know it's small potatos but this guy has amassed quite a following on the other site and he's making authoritative claims on the BDA (even though he's openly known to work for a competitor to the BDA). The ethical implications of his actions are quite clear though I don't believe he's any moral fiber in which simply rebuking his claims as they pop up would cause him any shame.

It's more of a wish really, but could/would the BDA take action?
