Congrats man. Im sure you will be happy with your purchase!

How big is the room this will be in? Reason im asking is that the sub may be the first thing you will want to upgrade. Especially if the primary reason is for movies.

the room is about 12x20. I am in an apartment so i dont know if anything more powerful will be welcomed by my neighbors, but we shall see.

I believe the subwoofer is the same one I currently use, the Energy ESW-8 Subwoofer. I too live in an apartment and I can tell you now that this sub will be perfectly fine for your uses. It is a very effecient clean sub for it's size. I never feel like it's overpowering (or underwhelming for that matter) and it's very tight. You should be extremely pleased with your new setup.

speaker wire question - i just bought 100ft of 16 gauge speaker wire but then read this. Am i going to experience any quality loss with what i just bought?

"Cabling

You need to know the different kind of speaker wire available to you before setting up your home theatre. If you bought an HTIB (home theater in a box), it probably came with 100ft of horribly cheap speaker wire. You don't want that! Do yourself a favor: buy some high-quality, 14-guage speaker wire. Anything higher than 14-guage is just to thin and will be susceptible to interence, quality loss, and poor quality over longer distances. Fourteen guage is a good thickness and suitable for most home theatres. Make sure its also not too thick - some speaker wire simply will not fit in to the speaker wire jacks on some receivers. "

You should be fine with the 16 gauge, unless some of your runs are really long.

No. I was thinking like 40 ft. 16 gauge will be fine at those lengths.

Default subwoofer wire

Hey all,

I just purchased the Energy Take Classic 5.1 and was wondering what subwoofer wire I need. I know it says an RCA cable for the sub, but I just need help on where to find the best one for the job. I'm pairing these speakers with an Onkyo TX-SR706 receiver and can't wait to get my new setup done! Please help?

Pick whatever length you need from here. I would recommend the RG6 on the bottom over the RG59 at the top of the list.

Great thanks! One other thing I noticed that there are 2 inputs for the subwoofer cable on the ES-8 Energy sub. With the cable you recommended there is only one plug. Should I put it in the red or the white jack on the sub?

Ok great. One other thing I noticed is that there are 2 jacks on the back of the subwoofer for the cable, yet the cable you recommended only has one plug on each end. Should I use the red or white jack on the back of the Energy sub?

By the way, this is available at Costco for much cheaper than online. I think a bit less than Amazon. And there is a coupon in the monthly coupon book for the subwoofer. I'd go check it out if you were interested, I was surprised to see Energy right there, next to all the other HTiBs.

I am obsessively examining the back of receiver (Pioneer VSX819H-K) online and noticed there is a single subwoofer pre-out, while the back of my sub has the red and white RCA jacks. Do i still use the single preout on the receiver or do i pair it up with other red and white jacks on the receiver? Will any normal RCA cable do the trick? I forgot to order one on monoprice and just want to stop by BB and pick up a Dynex....

Also the HDMI out is always going to be my TV correct?

God I am such an audio noob. Thanks.

You will use the singe subwoofer out on the receiver to either the red or white RCA jacks on the sub (I think the Red is preferred). However many people buy a Y-splitter to split the singe RCA cable at the subwoofer end so you can plug it into both the Red and White inputs. This ups the db's and can give you a better subwoofer response (or something to that extent). Any RCA cable should work but you will probably want to pick one up down the road that's a little higher in quality.
