Just like a good movie, when you find those good series, time flies and you can't get enough.

I think there's a lot of room for improvement all around. I've just had more success in finding great series than great movies lately. The recent ones I listed are good throughout in my opinion.

I don't watch much new stuff. I'm usually pretty focused on old stuff I've never seen before. I'm doing John Ford's filmography, and I haven't even gotten out of the silent period yet. I find more interesting with older movies than newer movies, I guess.

24 episode seasons? Kill me now. I'm willing to do that for Star Trek and pretty much nothing else.

TV Shows I just watched recently:

Dawson’s Creek (rewatch on DVD) - mostly love it
The Flight Attendant (HBO Max) - liked the first several episodes
Loki (Disney+) - great moments throughout, but Ep. 3 and the finale disappointed

Can’t say any of those titles were better than top movies of recent years.

Already started digging into a little known program known as…….

THE SOPRANOS (long overdue)

A lot less than you'll find in a typical forum thread.

It's always the opposite for me. I think TV has too many limitations as a medium from the start. It is not as free as film.

2020 is shaping up good for me! I have managed to find a lot of good films so far. And I'm always excited and hungry for more! Too early to tell anything proper about 2021, maybe it will show next year and/or the year after that, when more and more stuff gets available in wider ways. Still a lot of content from festivals to wait for.

and now so some keyboard warrior gets a sudden death, Im going to finish with:

there you go, have fun, kids
The fact that you go on attractiveness first says it all.

I had a conversation with a friend at work a couple of years ago where he suggested Black Sails, but he prefaced it with, "You have to get through the first season before it gets good."

"I have to watch 10 hours of bad television in order to get to the good stuff?"

"Yeah, pretty much."

I haven't exactly sworn off television, but I'd much rather risk a 90 minute stinker than trying to drudge through 10 hours of something that may or may not end up panning out. Hell, my mother gave me the first season of Fargo randomly like three years ago, and I still haven't put in the first disc.

TV is a vacuum for the worst storytelling sensibilities.

The last 20+ episode a season show I went through in its entirety was Smallville and I largely enjoyed most of it's ten year run, but I will freely admit that half of the episodes are worthless. There's some fun to be had, for sure. Some cool shit. But they don't advance the story much in any meaningful way. It could have easily been five ten-episode seasons and worked better. I really enjoyed the first seasons of Flash and Supergirl and I think I made it through the first three seasons of Arrow before fatigue set in and I didn't have the heart to see it through like Smallville.

There's a handful of shows I've watched in the last several years that I've enjoyed. Stranger Things, GLOW, Queen's Gambit, Dev's, For All Makind, and Ted Lasso are all terrific shows that grabbed me right from the start and kept that momentum going. They are diamonds in the rough though. The vast majority of television content is absolute garbage. Film's can be garbage too, but I find there's more creative freedom within the confines of a two-hour narrative. It pushes writer and directors to be more creative because they can't drag a story out to fifteen hours.

The X-Files is the best show ever to be broadcast. Television peaked with Mulder and Scully. I will consider anything else to be heresy.
