It says there are "Classic" dubs for the series and both movies. As far as I know the Manga dubs are the only pre-Netflix English dubs the movies ever got.

The page updated to say more info on other editions later. So I'm confident they'll be a standard slipbox release, minus the adv dub of course. The fact that they have the adv subs, which I vastly prefer over Netflix, if they don't include them I'll be annoyed.

Minor rant, but if you have $25 shipping, you're better off just adding it to the price upfront. Going from $274.99 to $299.99 in one page click is a real turn off.

Since I'm seeing it: The rights to 'Fly Me To The Moon" cost as much as a house now, per episode. Imagine the total cost, and you'll understand why it was left off the international Eva TV home video release.

Going to explain a bit further since people are getting confused. The rights to songs have been rounded up over the past 25 years and bundled into massive catalogs controlled by record companies as investment vehicles.

These investment vehicles are meant to maximize the value of master recordings and songwriter credits by letting the record companies leverage the demand for licensing, into perpetual income

Where it used to cost at most, $500-1000 per song to license for a TV show, or even lower, the new industry controlled clearing houses are asking 10-50x more, because of the increased demand from licensing. This is why licensinbg Fly Me To The Moon can cost as much as a house.

It just makes it easier to remove the dub if it’s exclusive to the UE. Just drop the discs rather than having to re-author them.

I completely understand the business rationale for the international releases to omit FMTTM, but at the same time I'm not going to pay for a Blu-ray release of Evangelion with its artistic integrity marred to that extent due to licensing issues.

I don't care that the new Blu-ray box set has "Genesis 0:0 - In The Beginning" and "Genesis 0:0' - The Light From The Darkness" translated or any of the other bonus material that hadn't received a Western release to date. It's just not worth it.

As much as I love FMttM (I often cite it as my favorite song, I've learned its Ep 15 piano arrangement and it's a go-to for improvisation and karaoke), it's hard to hold it against them considering it's essentially as lost as a high-quality scan of Episode 16.

Artistic integrity has and always will be marred by external factors; this one just happens to be monetary.

We'll see if it was made by fans for the fans if they include the ADV dubs in the standard edition.

Both GKIDS and Anime Limited have responded to a couple tweets asking if the "classic dub and subtitle" discs will be exclusive to the limited set, and they just say to wait for the announcement on Aug 30 for the other "editions" (plural). This makes me think those discs will be included in another less-expensive collector's edition like a steelbook set, but not the cheapest "mass market" standard edition.

Has anybody thought to ask if the classic dub episodes include FMtTM? I would try to but I’m leaving for work in a minute..

For the time being, I'm glad I got my pre-order in. But I'm also happy to see that GKIDS is offering refunds. Depending on how the smaller sets look and if the classic dubs are still included, I may switch down just to go easier on my wallet.
