TWF, have you ever considered releasing Lear on the Shore? I was doing a bit of reading after watching the new release of Kurosawa's Ran and came across it - seems like a meta-film from a few years ago, with Tatsuya Nakadai starring as a veteran actor.

Looking at FDA, looks like Elysian (Earwig and the Witch and Wendy) will be releasing Sion Sono's next film, Prisoners of the Ghostland to UK cinemas on 17th September. I know this isn't directly Third Window related but they've championed Sono and I'm not sure if any other UK distributors have bought his films. Based on their past two releases I expect this will be a windowed release that hits at least Picturehouse and possibly some of the other chains too. Maybe even a Blu-ray too.

Crazy that Nakadai is still making movies. Favourite actor but I haven't seen him in anything since the 90s. Looks like an interesting movie...

Лир на берегу / Umibe no Lear / Lear on the Shore (2017) Official trailer - YouTube
it's very slow and experimental piece, almost like a 1-person stage play at times.
Not suited at all to physical, so if it went anywhere it would be an arthouse specialty streaming platform like MUBI, but i'd say it's probably even too esoteric for even the MUBI crowd

That sounds fascinating. I want to see it even more now!

Sadly, now 3-4 years down the line, I doubt it's ever going to get a release via those platforms. You never know though.

I pre-ordered the second Toyoda set from Terracotta along with Eureka's Duel to the Death. I also finally grabbed the Ujicha set because I didn't want to miss out on something so unique (though, truly, that's what every TWF release is!).

Thanks for the heads up on the new £5 signup/points scheme.

i'm not expecting it to be easy to get the second toyoda set, now TWF is under arrows wing and noticed in a potentially different way.

hope i'm proven wrong. as a fan of his work for many years, i've watched in quiet disbelief at how roundly ignored the first set essentially was.

Pornostar is getting a standalone Blu-ray release.

I imagine it'll sell because it's called Pornostar.

Man, I used to love that podcast, now they make me cringe a little too much with the OTT weeb stuff, especially cdawg, still it’s cool to give some shine to TWF.

Talking Images' interview with Adam Torel, Head of Third Window Films (via open.spotify.com)

Recommended. The two hours fly by as it's a very interesting insight into the label and the man behind it.

It certainly left me with a much fuller appreciation of exactly what it takes to run an esoteric label and box clever in a world mostly ruled by large corporations.

Unfortunately shipping to the UK is $24.70 (USPS first class), half the price of the steelbook itself.

And they don't appear to pay customs up front so you're looking at a potential extra £11 VAT and £8 handling fee so £73 for a £36 steelbook. Might have to send one to American friends and get them to hold it until I can next get out there, though who knows when that will be!

It's up in the air whilst special features are produced as per an earlier post by TWF.

Or get them to bring it over to the UK if they visit before you visit them.

Is there any chance of releasing Lee Chang-dong's Oasis on blu ray at all?
