Some very early DVDs came in CD cases but this practice was quickly abandoned. Many people were confused; they thought they were soundtrack albums on CD. Since then, none of the disc-based media comes in a case that looks like another format. DVD cases don't look like CD cases, Blu-ray cases don't look like DVD or CD cases (and are different colored than HD-DVD cases), and so on.

In retrospect absolutely, although for a while I for one was almost awestruck at how you could have an entire season of a TV show in something the size of one VHS case, where previously the season would have taken up around 13 VHS cases worth of space.

A lean mean thrill machine of dino mayhem that doesn't forget that dinosaurs are and have always been wondrous fascinating creatures and not just movie monsters that are used for contrived action to up the body count. JP showed the beauty and the beast of nature, and while TLW lost sight of the beauty, JP3 gained it back.

Not saying it doesn't have characters doing dumb things, but they have more believable intentions and the fact that they are just civilians that are out of their depth yet desperate enough to save their son in dino infested island. A more focused narrative also helps in keeping things moving with it's smaller cast that actually had a human dynamic. The shorter runtime while seemingly anemic compared to the rest in the series also meant not overstaying its welcome.

JP3 is breezy and more fun and brings back the wonder and magical spirit of JP1(something TLW had none of), while TLW was laborious in its attempt to repeat the same tricks while jamming more of it, and its full of unlikable characters(except for Roland the game hunter). The last 20 minutes was the only time the film zapped to life, but it was too late by then. Spielberg executed it like a soulless cash grab. Sure JP3 was Hollywood franchise filmmaking, but at least Johnston was enthusiastic and not cynical in his approach.

Jurassic Park is a perfectly fine monster movie, and no more.

Bring it on. The Lost World is a chore to sit through for 100 straight minutes and none of the technical wizardry on display could cover up the film's lackadaisical vibe.

Ian Malcolm only proved that he worked better as a supporting character than a lead. He brought no kind energy to the table, and his constant cynicism and sarcasm was a drag. Dr. Grant>Ian Malcolm, plain and simple. The kid was an annoying shoehorned character that had no reason to be there except for contrivance, because OH BOY, child endangerment. The kid in JP3 was the driving force in the story, big difference. Julianne Moore is a charisma vacuum and I've never been able to tolerate her. The rest of the cast might as well have had cowbells attached to their necks wearing "dunce" coned hats. They were merely a-hole dino fodder set up for attack scenes. Like I said before though, Roland was cool and seemed like the only sensible and interesting character in the film. See where I'm going with this?

When you have a sequel to a classic coming at you with a mundane and cynical spirit, populated by characters you either don't like or couldn't care less about, and a plot that is just mechanically implemented for rote action scenes and dino attacks without a single moment spent to engage the heart of the premise, then you're not exactly gonna have a fun time watching it. It's an utterly joyless slog.

JP3 is not a classic by any stretch, but it is way more enjoyable as a summer popcorn flick that brought a more delightful energy and an enthusiasm for dinosaurs that made JP1 so great. It at least wanted you to have a good time for your admissions fee, as opposed to The Lost World's devil may care attitude "I got your money, so whatever, here's two T-Rexes".

Haven't watched either one since release, but do remember III being a more breezy and light-hearted affair, for this kind of stuff.

100% agreed. Absolutely thought 3 was amazing. Then again I would give an A+ to the four other films and a B+ to Lost World. It's got a few great moments but yeah the characters were terrible. Even Malcom was annoying.

I respect it for its effects work more than I like the movie as a whole. This franchise, as well as the Pirates of the Caribbean series, are wildly successful films that do nothing for me.

Thank you.

When will advertisers learn, that stuffing websites with intrusive annoying adds, will likely have the exact opposite effect of what they want?

It's little bit more than that. It's cinematic hubris as well as an expertly crafted cautionary tale of technology.
