So I just re-watched my german 'Director's cut' DVD and I've noticed that the extra scenes are like 'reinserted' in the original movie because there is a slightest lower quality/yellow tint to them but as they are merged in the movie and as it's only seconds/quick shots, it is a bit unnoticeable but still it's clearly some sort of a different source. So I guess they edited that cut using the laserdisc or else for that special DVD and maybe there was no "original master" for it except on the VHS/laserdisc. Just a guess though...

Also I forgot about the full screen test of Neve Campbell in the bonus features and loved it ! It wasn't there on our french Studio Canal bluray (only the Skeet Ulrich and Jamie Kennedy ones).

I re-uploaded it for those interested, the one I found on YouTube earlier was out of synch.

I've kind of been wondering for awhile if they even have possession at this point of the cut footage. Things have just gone through so many hands, and I have a hard time thinking if it was just sitting there on some alternate master, they would have exploited it for this release, if they were rescanning it in 4K any way, and especially with the new film coming. And if it's just in bits...who knows where those bits are.

If they did a scan of the negative and those bits aren't there, they were either physically excised for the R rated cut orrrrrrrrrrrr we've been treated to an unusual situation. Be it for marketing purposes or whatever. It does strike me as odd they would do such a thing. But not if anybody wanted to sell the movie yet again down the road.

In the event the material was removed from the neg and this is what we're left with, me-oh-my.

If anyone can locate it then Screa- oh, wait…

In all seriousness though, whilst it is a bummer that it doesn’t appear to be the unrated, it’s not the end of the world. The unrated still exists, is out there, and isn’t diminished by this. At this point I’m just excited to have a scan of the film that doesn’t look like it was taken through a cloth.

After seeing more unrated shots, ehh I think I just like the theatrical version more. Call it a personal preference.

Maybe there is a shot or two that's better in the unrated, but when I balance the scales I'm tipping toward the R-rated one. It could just be because I grew up with it, though I could've sworn that I owned the unrated on VHS because of some of the shots that are all too familiar to me.

I definitely wouldn't want a version where the unrated shots seem out of place in comparison, though.

I dont think we will ever see unrated in HD let alone 4k.
If they never bothered for the blu ray releases then why would they for this.

They know we’ll settle for less, that’s why they haven’t bothered putting together an unrated UHD.

If they removed the footage from the negative and a good source still exists (like an IP, or dare I say a print) it could totally be recut into the movie and conformed as best they could. This kind of thing has been done many a time to pretty convincing degree.

Of course if it comes to that they don't want to bother over money, or the fact they could milk everyone again. Who knows at this point!

If 5cream does well and spawns a whole new set of sequels then maybe something could happen, but I think the Unrated is effectively a lost cut now.

The Tatum death in particular is worse in the Unrated cut.

The negative would have been conformed to the theatrical cut. What happened to the trims after that is anyone's guess.

@Djt31

I also own the Unrated DVD and R-Rated Blu-ray. But I never watch the DVD because of the low quality Unrated Scenes.
Always makes me distract from the movie...

I guess I will be more than pleased with the R-Rated 4K.
Steelbook is already sold out in several German shops. And a Standard-Version won't come out soon on here

Is it only the German/French release getting the 4K + Blu-ray combo?

Looks like the UK release too, but no one knows for sure. We’ll have to wait for the pack shots to be released.

I've updated the video on YouTube for those who want to see the alternate shots from the 'Director's Cut'. I ripped my german DVD and tried to keep the best quality I could as the others videos on YT were a bit blurry...
As you can see, there's definitely a different source for the alternate shots (I've tried to remove the yellow tint but still it's clearly noticeable.)
