Default Color banding on my VT60

This is the only issue I have with my VT60 plasma. Is this just a negative symptom of plasma technology or is there an actually way to eliminate or at least minimize the color banding on this tv?

All Plasmas kinda suffer from the same issue. It's simply low bit rate color processing compared to newer panels. As an example, A 4K HDR panel gets rid of that shade banding.

In Plasma technology, 1080p could only do so much. It had limitations which is why the genre got lost in the 4K LED rise. In short, there's nothing you can do about it, especially if the source itself is low bitrate color.

The problem with lower BR color, is that there simply weren't enough variances within shades of colors that the could be processed by the panels themselves. Pioneer Elites simply softened the sharpness a bit so you had detail but not enough that the sharper edges of that banding showed as much. With that in mind, you could lower your sharpness setting and make sure any digital noise filters are ON. That will help a bit but you suffer a tad on fine detail, especially on BluRays. It's pretty much like older computer monitors that could only do basic rez from lower resolution settings, which resulted in blocky banding.

Give that a shot. It wont get rid of the issue completely but it should soften the effect to make it less noticeable.

Thanks so much for your help! I tried what you suggested and it did make a difference. I had my sharpness set to 40 and I took it all the way down to zero. That definitely softens the color banding quite a bit.

Do you play a lot of video games? That's where it's most apparent.

Sharpness should be set to 0 for the best overall picture performance.

In a lot of video games that is a source issue.

Probably the person has to fix the video in the game's settings(brightness, sharpness, contrast, etc).

Sometimes greyscale issues can cause banding, other times source material. Before going front projection, I owned the Panasonic 65" VT60 for about year watching mostly Blu-ray - calibrated by Chad B. I had no banding issues. In fact, it was pretty much a flawless 1080p image. It was the best TV I ever owned up to that time (2014).
