Recorder makes sense to me...

Remember... The BDA has one card up it's sleeve (at least) that they haven't played yet but alluded to in the presentation today.

Blu-ray is... RECORDABLE!!!!

HDDVD _is not_ recordable in a format that can playback through current HDDVD hardware. You can author them, but they are data storage only (or so I'm told). So, that would mean you can't record a movie/show/home video and play it back on your TV. You could only save some data and access it on your PC, allegedly.

I see the future BD players being not only playable, but recordable as well (just like VHS). I think it's just a matter of pricing right now holding it back.

This is a HUGE advantage for Blu-ray if it can materialize soon at a price point that can make it work. Talk about the best way to record your favorite shows and watch them later... unlimited storage potential and an entire market for blank media on a full market scale. Could be very big and would end the war very soon.

I suspect the BDA is holding back on this one while the technology gets the price on players down. Best they not start dropping high priced stuff right now in light of the FUD coming out of the HDDVD camp.
