Did you just call Geoff a furry for having Tom Cat as his avatar?

I’m not saying Geoff’s a furry, just that if he likes cartoon animals then he might be a little more understanding of furries like Blowbear.

Am I saying that Geoff is furry-adjacent? No, but I’m asking the question.

I had plans to spend today sitting in my backyard drinking beer.
Late last night, my daughter helped me take down my 120" screen for some maintenance. When we put it back up, I had to redo my manual masking system so I threw on a few titles to test various aspect ratios. This disc was the final one. We were going to just watch the beginning mountain ascent... Damn if we didn't get sucked in again!!!

It was after 3am when we finished.. She's still asleep and I've just shocked the hell out of my wife when I declined her offer to get me a beer.

That's literally never happened before..if I have one I'll end up falling asleep, and then who will barbecue?
Happy Labour day everyone!

I enjoyed The Irishman on first viewing though it was quite a slog at 3.5 hours, but I keep coming back to it and get sucked in every time. Scorsese has done it again.

The detail, the performances, the rhythm and music just sweep you up. I can’t justify buying the blu with it always available on Netflix, but I’d throw down my money for a UHD.

Sad that the likes of Scorsese, Spielberg, Lynch won’t be around for much longer. All this time and very few newcomers come even close to their level of talent and distinctiveness.

Villeneuve is enough for right now if you ask me, but then, I only ever cared for Spielberg (& not for a long time now) out of those three. Scorsese & I have divergent interests, & you either love or hate Lynch. I despise him.

David Lynch has more talent and originality in one nose-hair than twenty Villeneuves as far as I’m concerned, and even his worst film, Dune, which he himself disowns, looks set to remain the best adaptation. Lynch’s unforgettable imagery leaves Villeneuve’s bland, sterile aesthetic in the sand.

I’ll reserve final judgement until I’ve seen Villeneuve’s effort, if I can be bothered - his Blade Runner was a powerful sedative.

Incredible how tastes vary. Prisoners was the only Villeneuve I enjoyed. What is it about his filmmaking that excites you?

I found it underwhelming. Someone of Villeneuve’s director peer group that I really respond to is Nicolas Winding Refn, he pushes the boundaries and seems to be having fun, all wrapped in an otherworldly style.

He has a wondrous eye for production & pulls performances out of his actors like few current directors can. 2049 didn’t quite change my life, but it did change my day when I first saw it. In a big big way.

But as you say, opinions vary.
