This is filming right up the street from me. They are using the town library for a scene as well as a residential home. Haven’t heard about any other filming locations yet but will be cool to go check out filming one day.

Cramming the book into one film just will not work.

A Salem's Lot movie reboot. Interesting. I'm interested in learning more.

The original Salem's Lot, incredible horror film. One of my all time favorites. I've had nightmares from the imagery of the original, directed by Tobe Hooper. The glowing greenish eyes, if the new films gets that part right, and the tone, this could be very effective. The dead, pale skin also. I bet they'll miss the point of how effective that ghastly look for horror is. They might think it's not necessary to be scary... Simple make up as seen in the original can make all the difference for horror.

I'm just going to say right now, it will be very challenging for them to top the look of the original Mr. Barlow/Nosferatu in Salem's Lot the original. That thing is incredible in terms of horror. Scared the hell out of me as a kid watching it.

Cool. I hope you get to see some filming.
If you get a chance to video record it somehow and post it on youtube or something, that would be cool to see, like they were doing for the new Batman riding the motorcycle for The Flash movie for 2022.

This has been filming in my town. They were filming at the town library on Monday so I stalked the set. Didn’t see much except a lot of crew and an old car that’s supposedly driven by Ben Mears. But still pretty cool to see! This is definitely a big production based on all the crew and trucks and trailers.

I hope they go for the gray, dead looking skin of the vampires along with those green/yellow piercing, reflective eyes in the Tobe Hooper TV Mini series Salem's Lot which is the version combined as a single 3 hour or so epic movie.

They were almost like possessed monsters in that original film. Nothing like many vampire movies where they're just normal looking people but with fangs.

Also, any fan of sick looking, monster like vampires, definitely check out del Toro's series, The Strain season 1 being the best IMO. It went for 4 seasons but lost its story a bit by the end. The Master Vampire is a horrific monster in the first 2 seasons or so.

The vampires look like normal people in the book so if they are going for accuracy they will probably not redo the Nosferatu-inspired look of the Hooper film

Not everything needs to be a four-hour epic.

It's a vampire story, not The Lord of the Rings. The current popularity and acceptability of 2- to 2.5 hour movies means this will be fine.

I mean...have you read the book? It's pretty long and has a ton of characters and plot developments. Like most of King's books.

IT is about twice as long and it still just barely fit into a 2.5 hour movie and a 3 hour movie. with some judicious cutting. Salem's Lot probably needs at least 3 hours to feel complete, and that's exactly how long the 1979 version was.

Love the miniseries but it definitely had fatty tissue that could easily be trimmed.

The book can easily be done in a film.

Remember, it's capturing the spirit of the book that's more important than every single chapter in the book.

The recent The Stand miniseries had a ton of time to tell its story and completely botched it.

I would argue that there's a lot more valid material in SALEM'S LOT than in any of the bloated LOTR flicks.....

I completely agree. I recently read the book just a few years ago and it was fantastic, but there was a lot that wouldn't translate to film that easily and I would honestly be worried if they tried to break this into 2 movies. 120-160 minutes feels like plenty of time to effectively tell the story. I would much rather in success, they attempt to tell a prequel story as a second film, rather than just bloat the novel's story...

William Sadler is in the film and is the only actor cast who hasn't been announced who he is playing. Maybe he is playing Barlow. Although he's a little older than I would have expected for the role.
