Chop Shop
Memories of Murder
2046
Tiny: The Life of Erin Blackwell
Pariah
Beasts of No Nation
Throw Down
Love & Basketball
Uncut Gems
One Night in Miami

So that's an average of about one post-2000s title per month
Plus we know things like Time, Atlantics, American Factory, Mudbound, and Sound of Metal are coming, and who knows what 2021 Netflix offerings might be in the mix. There are def a few contenders (Hand of God, Heart of a Dog)

I'm hoping for a Chantal Akerman filmography box similar to other recent director's sets (including the Eclipse Chantal Akerman in the Seventies).

I'm waiting on a Z upgrade. Why they released a Costa-Gavras masterpiece on DVD only is mystifying.

Do they have the rights to Z again? The DVD is listed as Out of Print.

I believe they don't have the rights. They also lost the rights to Costa-Gavras' The Confession, which has a bluray going for insane prices. I really wish both of those would go back in print. If not from Criterion, then from Cohen or Kino.

The page on the Janus site has been long gone but it's still on the Criterion Channel with the Criterion Collection and Janus logos, so there might be some rights issues that they are trying to get cleared.

Streaming rights and disc rights are different. So they could still have the rights to stream it. I don’t know. I just want Z on Blu!

Criterion did a great job on this movie and love all the extras that are included. I have seen this movie many times, but the picture quality looked really good as expected for a criterion release. Plus, I really like the digibook with the pop up Godzilla inside. Very cool release!

Since we all love lists so much, these are my most wanted upgrades from Criterion among the numbered releases:

[Show spoiler]Grand Illusion
Great Expectations
Henry V
Hamlet
Peeping Tom
The Orphic Trilogy
Eisenstein: The Sound Years
Written on the Wind
Double Suicide
Diary of a Chambermaid
Le trou

The Last Wave
A nous la liberte
Under the Roofs of Paris
Man Bites Dog
Trouble in Paradise
Contempt
Pepe le moko
Coup de grace
Il posto
I fidanzati
The Devil and Daniel Webster
Knife in the Water
Diary of a Country Priest
Le Courbeau
Floating Weeds
Stray Dog
The Lower Depths
Early Summer
Casque d'or
A Generation
Kanal
The Browning Version
Le notti bianche
Boudu Saved From Drowning
Rebel Samurai: Sixties Swordplay Classics
Shoot the Piano Player
Forbidden Games
The Bad Sleep Well
Mr. Arkadin
The Children Are Watching Us
La bete humaine
Murmur of the Heart
Lacombe, Lucien
Viridiana
The Spirit of the Beehive
Hands Over the City
The Fallen Idol
Pandora's Box
Monsters and Madmen set (mainly for the Karloff films)
When a Woman Ascends the Stairs
Fires on the Plain
The Burmese Harp
The Face of Another
Les enfants terribles
Cria cuervos...
Drunken Angel
This Sporting Life
Blast of Silence
The Lovers
The Fire Within
Classe tous risques
Twenty-Four Eyes
Empire of Passion
Wise Blood
That Hamilton Woman

At least I was happy to check off Taste of Cherry, Do the Right Thing, The Lady Eve, Mona Lisa, The Scarlet Empress, Ratcatcher, The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum, Onibaba, Pickup on South Street, Six Moral Tales, Mouchette, The Naked City, Brute Force, The Furies, The Fugitive Kind, and Three Silent Classics By Josef Von Sternberg relatively recently. So they've gotten a lot of great stuff back in the collection on Blu-Ray, but still a long, long way to go as well, as my excessively long wantlist suggests.

Really, this is right near the top of my list and I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet, considering they've also put out El Sur.

I do recall reading that, but thanks for the reminder. I'm also hoping that the recent upgrade of The Ascent sets a precedent for allowing some more Eclipse titles out of DVD jail outside of boxset releases.

I see to remember Chantal Akerman’s Les Rendez-vous d’Anna being posted on Janus’ website with a new restoration, so that could be in the pipeline for a spine-numbered release.

Anyone else underwhelmed with the 2021 releases compared to 2020 for example which had Bruce Lee and Fellini boxsets and titles like The War of the Worlds, The Irishman, and Amores Perros. Only 2021 release I purchased was The Parallax View and had highly anticipated Memories of Murder only to be let down by the new restoration reviews and screencaps. Was expecting The Man Who Wasn’t There and Solo con tu pareja in 2021 being the year of their 20th and 30th anniversaries respectively. After Hours was one I thought finally would be released after the announcement made over 2 years ago now. If I am not mistaken I think I heard a rumor this was being delayed in order to be released with the spine number #1111. Did anyone else hear about this?

Considering this year brought us Bringing Up Baby, Mirror, The Human Condition, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, World of Wong Kar Wai, Flowers of Shanghai, Nightmare Alley, Onibaba, High Sierra, The Incredible Shrinking Man, Devi, the entire Once Upon a Time in China series, oh, and Citizen Kane, Mulholland Dr, The Red Shoes, Uncut Gems, and Menace II Society on 4K, I would have to say that no, Criterion's 2021 slate does not stand second to last year's, in my view.

Well, I've certainly bought less from them this year, but it's still been a good year.

Last year: The Fugitive Kind, Cuaron's Roma, Teorema, Bamboozled, The Prince of Tides, The Cremator, Scorsese Shorts, An Unmarried Woman, Come and See, The Portrait of a Lady on Fire, The Bruce Lee Box Set, Marriage Story, The War of the Worlds, The Agnes Varda Box Set, The Comfort of Strangers, Christ Stopped at Eboli, World Cinema Project Vol. 3 Box Set, The Elephant Man, Claudine, The Gunfighter, The Hit, Parasite, Girlfriends, Moonstruck, Ghost Dog, The Irishman, Fellini Box Set, Crash, Mouchette, and Amores Perros.

This Year: Rolling Thunder Revue, The Ascent, Luis Bunuel Box Set, Smooth Talk, The Parallax View, Wong Kar Wai Box Set, Memories of Murder, Mirror, La Piscine, The Damned, Melvin Van Peebles Box Set, Devi, The Incredible Shrinking Man, and The Learning Tree.

Considering I'm not 4K, yet, the big year end 4K news didn't mean anything for me, and there was no big November box set this time (like Bergman and Fellini in previous years). Often, I would buy every title in November. This year, there is NOTHING for me. I already have a 3-disc blu book of Citizen Kane, the Warner BD of Menace II Society, the Criterion BDs of Mulholland Drive and La Strada, and the Eureka release of Once Upon a Time in China. So, there's nothing for me to get in November, and that's a first, ever. Even in Dec., I already have the Criterion BD of The Red Shoes, and I'll get The Learning Tree.

So, yes, it's definitely been a slower year for me, personally, with them.
